good luck with that, sk bob, lol !   Hey, bookluvinbabe, where did you go ????
That was a vailid & cute point about 2 posts in 5 years not being a regular or even casual poster.
I think the FOLLOW UP is very important, when posting for Roadfood ideas.
It's gr8 to get back on the thread, as much as possible to interact with any posts that might've been made toward u.

My 1st post was about 5 years or so ago,  when I asked about Buffalo , NY restaurants.
I was planning a fun trip , flying from JFK to BUF on Jet Blue, just for a few days ...
And I loved the way Roadfooders networked with me.
I felt connected, and made sure to keep interjecting in the thread.

I LOVE the BRICKYARD for burgers in Daytona !!
I've been there 3 times already, including back in May.
It was nice meeting u there , sk bob, during our Foodie get together in 2008 !!

I also enjoy the Burger at the STONEWOOD Grill very much.

Quick report--

My son LOVED Red Bone Alley in Florence.  I thought it was just okay but it was plenty of food and he was amused by the indoor ice cream truck.

We had a good meal at Down the Hatch in Ponce Inlet--great outdoor seating on the water, plentiful food.  A very nice smoked fish dip.

I liked the food at Our Deck Down Under in Port Orange quite well.  The crabcake was tasty, the grilled mahi mahi was fresh and the outdoor seating was again lovely.

I was disappointed in the Original Stavros Pizza in Daytona Beach.  Too much cheese, not enough sauce, not great service.  My son never even took a bite of the pizza and opted to fill up on lasagna instead.

It was a good trip but I think I'll cook more next time!

too bad about Stavros. IMO you can never have to much cheese.
the service has never been great, but adequate. the food offsets it.
glad you could do a review of your trip.

Hi sk bob !!
WOW, I'd sure love that !   I'll work on  squeezing yet another FOODIE trip in , lol !!        I recently booked a flight to Chicago for late August..  (lots of stuff Ellen likes : burgers, hot dogs, steaks, etc :)

Flying  to Myrtle Beach in Sept for 2 days.
Then it's ACY-FLL in November, for the "BURGER BEAST beastie awards" in Miami :)
BUT, that leaves October OPEN, does'nt it, lol ?!?

That's a shame about Stavros, we ate there this past Saturday and I was is pure heaven.  We had 2 15 year olds and an 11 year old and we really enjoyed it even though the service was slow BUT we did order 4 pizzas.

Glad you enjoyed Down the Hatch,  Alway's a fave of mine.  Did you get to tour the Light House in Ponce Inlet?

Re:DC to Daytona Beach 2013/07/24 17:06:35 (permalink)
Can I hi-jack my own old thread and bring it back???

Updated constraints/plans:

Child is now 6.  He's allergic to peanuts but we don't stress too much about it.  As long as he isn't eating peanuts, he can be around them.

I'm looking for lunch near Lumberton, dinner near Savannah and meals in the Daytona area again.

The consensus of the family is that we will return to Down the Hatch in Ponce Inlet.  I'd consider Aunt Catfishes if we could go early.  Beyond that nothing from our last two trips really rocked our world.

Please help! (Again!)  Thanks!

In Savannah, we visited B & D Burgers on Broughton Street two weeks ago and really enjoyed it.  These are really excellent, high-end burgers in a casual, friendly, somewhat silly place with lots of homemade ingredients like some amazing pimento cheese.  And Broughton is a really decent street for shopping, including vintage clothing and toy stores within a few doors if you'd like to get a little exercise after you eat, plus Leopold's Ice Cream (since 1918) a block and a half away to counteract the benefits of the exercise.  Parking's available at several decks nearby for about a buck an hour.  Depending on timing, you might could also give your kid a Baby Mercy Break at the Savannah Children's Museum / Railroad Museum.

Alternately, there's Smokin' Pig BBQ a few exits south on I-95 in the suburb of Richmond Hill.  We really enjoyed that a lot when we visited a couple of years ago.

Are you willing to get off 95? McCabe's in Manning, SC is great, but call to make sure they are open.

Fuller's in Lumberton is a big ole buffet. The chicken is pretty good.

B and J's and Skipper's, both in Darien Ga are good too.
