I think the media is making a mountain out of a molehill with this story. With the present state of the art, it appears an additional production step, automated individual bill inspection, is necessary. Back in high shool, our class toured the Bureau of Printing and Engraving. Even back then, they had people manually inspecting huge sheets of low denomination bills for printing defects. It almost looked like the reader of a broadsheet newspaper leafing through the paper. Perhaps they should have gone back to printing the old bills immediately after discovering the problem, rather than during the post-printing inspection process they don't have yet. I seriously can't believe they printed many bills during the period when they were only getting a 70% yield.

David_NYC Ahhhhh our Government at it's..... best??? You would think that with all the new high tech developments, they could develop a scanner to check for defects during production. The technology is out there
