Dark, Milk or White?

I'm a self-confessed (and proud) chocoholic. But as much as I like all chocolate, dark chocolate is my favorite -- the darker and more bitter, the better.

Specific brands aside, what do you favor: dark, milk or white chocolate?

Actually, I have two questions. My second question is, are you a chocoholic, a fan, or simply an occasional indulger? While there's obviously no right or wrong here, my gut tells me that most people will prefer milk, but that the chocoholics wil prefer dark.

Sorry to be contrary to your gut but I am an occasional indulger who prefers dark. Milk or white are usually too sweet and without the nice bitter bite of real chocolate.

I love dark chocolate, though I am an occasional chocolate eater.

I have always bought the bags of the little Hershey bars for my kids because I could always be assured that the dark ones would be left.

My boss brought some dark chocolated covered Kit-Kat bites to the office last week. OMG!

I prefer the heady sensuousness of dark, but as we write, I am at work now happily munching on a classic Hershey's plain chocolate bar.

And, I am an occasional indulger.

It is rarely that I indulge in chocolate but when I do, I prefer milk chocolate.

I spent quite a bit of time in Lancaster, PA and it is just a short hop up to Hershey. I did the tour thing and that is one of the few times I over endulged. Neat little town.

When I do feel the need for a taste of chocolate, just a small amount does the trick.

I am an occasional dark chocolate binger. I particularly like dark chocolate with fruit flavors, like orange or lemon creams, chocolate covered cherries or raspberry jellies.

I only like milk chocolate when there is a lot of other stuff in it, like Chunkys.

Is it just me, or is it getting hot in here...?

My plebeian friends all prefer milk chocolate. I can take or leave chocolate (I know, I'm a traitor) pretty much, but I am partial to Godiva's lime truffles. Mmmmmm.

Me--i am an occasional indulger that prefers dark, and i like white.Mrs tiki is a full fledged chocaholic that says white isnt chocolate and will kill anything that stands between her and milk chocolate---and is especially fond of hazelnut CREAM-not the whole nut- surronded by good milk chocolate---i have been know to get a little gaga over a good european dark---the kind with a "number" attached to it---hard to find here--and we both like those fruit flavored break apart "oranges"--her the milk/orange---me the dark/raspberry--wonder why they are still shaped like an orange?Guess we mess with your theory, huh?

I'm a dark girl--not so much bittersweet, but with a really strong flavor, like a cocoa dusted truffle. I like milk best filled with caramel, and the only time I like white is in white chcolate macadamia nut cookies.

I guess I'm a plebian and predictable, as well as an addict.

I prefer milk chocolate or else a milk and dark combo, as far as commercial candy bars etc go. Cookies, et al I prefer semisweet. Bitter is just like coffee and beer are to me,too bitter and nasty.

Milk chocolate for me. I like dark more bitter chocolate in baked desserts, say a cake with ganache or a (yum) souffle. My favorite is milk chocolate/orange. And I'm an occasional indulger who agrees with the Sundancer--a little chocolate goes a long way.

I grew up eating only milk chocalate and that is all i have loved until recently.

Now I truly love the taste of good dark chocalate. My problem is it is really hard to find unsweetened dark chocalate! Does anyone know of some good brands of unsweetened dark? I know Lindt makes a sugar free, but they use aspartame and it is too chemical tasting.

I go through spurts but usually prefer eating chocolate in the evening during the winter (can't explain why)...

I guess I'm the one who fits Phil J's original theory. I'm a confessed chocolate addict (can't go a day without it) and the darker it is the better I like it. I'm currently in love with Scharfen Berger's bittersweet chocolate bars, which I can pick up at my local food co-op, but I'll make do with M&M's if nothing else is available!

I came across a reference to this website last week:
    www.echocolates.com

They have chocolates with 99% cocoa (no sugar) and they have chocolates with provenance (all the beans come from a single place). I haven't ordered from them -- yet!

I'm an occasional indulgefanaholoic. I prefer milk a chocolate entree with a dark chocolate dressing and a garnish of white chocolate.

What would life be without chocolate? I love it all but do prefer the dark. No one has mentioned Wilbur Chocolate--made in the small town of Lititz, PA. The dark Wilbur "buds" are wonderful. A great little place to stop if ever in PA Dutch country. Of course, Hershey is right up the road from there, so you can hit two great places in one day.

Dark Chocolate Wilbur buds are THE BEST chocolate fix there is. Unless I am in some restaurant that is serving one of those molten chocolate cakes (you know, the one where it is all oozy in the middle?). Then that is the best.

I am a fan. Husband is a chocoholic.

MILK CHOCOLATE...especially from England and Canada. Especially Cadbury's from England and Canada (different then the American). The only American candy that comes close for me is See's. The only white chocolate I like is with raspberries, especially cheesecake or Godiva ice cream, and See's white chocolate Key Lime truffle.

I must admit I'd never heard of Wilbur buds, but your e-mail prompted me to investigate. They look great, although the website wasn't too instructive about places to buy them (beyond mail order).

Dark is the best, but the Hershey's Dark syrup is too much of the dark. I tired it in milk and on ice cream and it just doesn't taste right. I like Mounds because of the dark Chocolate but I like the almond in Almond Joy. Now, if they could just make a "Dark Almond Joy".
