Day in Lancaster PA

Here is a map of the route we took starting from Central Market.
goo.gl/maps/6ko8Q

Central Market -  - Not a lot in the way of prepared foods but there are  butchers, lots of produce, breads, all kinds of pickled stuff and lots more.  If your going here and are somewhat local bring a cooler.  We Picked up some some turkey sausages from the Turkey Lady, some more sausages from S. Clyde Weaver, a loaf of chocolate bread made with Wilbur Buds, and some pickled asparagus and bread and butter pickles.

Lititz PA – Wilbur’s chocolate factory picked up some Wilbur Buds.   Savory Gourmet picked up some Hot Salsa they have a selection of all kinds of exotic meats also we got some elk in the past that was good.   Sturgis Pretzel Factory not really a factory they sell bags of pretzels and soft pretzels.  If you want bags of the pretzels recommend you go about a mile down the street to H&S food distributors the sell the same bags of pretzels for cheaper.

Oregon Dairy -  We stopped here for lunch got the chicken and waffles not the soul food king but chicken and gravy over a waffle.  Really enjoyed this.  Got a scoop of chocolate fudge brownie in a pretzel cone the saltiness of the cone with the chocolate was excellent.

Mr. Sticky’s Sticky Buns.  It is in the parking lot of the Visitor Center  Got a cinnamon bun with peanut butter frosting it was good wouldn’t make a special trip but if you are at the visitor center pick one up.

Bird in Hand Farmers Market-  I don’t really like this market.  But last time we were up there was a slice of strawberry pie that looked delicious they did not have it this time.

Bird in Hand Bake Shop – Not to be confused with bird in hand Bakery across the street from the market.   This is off of the main drag.   Picked up a blueberry pie they are known for the shoofly pie.

Intercourse PA – Stoltzfus Meats we stopped here to pick up a box of the bacon burgers.  Intercourse canning across the street for some more pickles.  Kitchen Kettle Village is also here we did not stop they also have a canning shop and some other shops.  Immergut Hand Rolled Soft Pretzel for a soft pretzel

Lapp Valley Farms Ice Cream-  They also have a stand at the Kitchen Kettle Village in town but prefer to go out to the farm.  Very good ice cream got a scoop of butter brickle.

Until this report I knew Lititz only as the place where various animal traps are manufactured!

The chicken and gravy looks like it'd be pretty good as long as the waffle's not too sweet.

Wow--what fun!  Looks like you found some great places and products.  That pretzel cone looks fantastic!  Wonderful area, too.  There used to be a beautiful park in Lititz with a lovely roller coaster.  It may be gone by now.  Thank you for sharing!!

Nice report, thx for sharing your trip. Wouldn't it be nice if they had a grill and grilled some of those sausages. The pretzel cone is a great idea, why the heck didn't I think of that, I bet it was good...............thx.....pnwc

ScreamingChicken - The waffle was not very sweet just a hint of sweetness.

Love2Bake - I did not see a roller coaster.  But apparently Lititz was just voted Americas Coolest Small Town they had banners around town announcing that.

pnwchef - I agree with the pretzel cone I hope these become more common.  I rarely get a cone but I couldn't pass this up or the smell of the fresh made waffle cones at Lapps Valley.

My bad!  I had Lititz mixed up with Ligonier, PA -- they're no where near each other.   Lititz is close to Hershey Park, though--that could be fun on another trip, if you like that sort of thing.

Great trip report. You pretty much hit all our favorites except Countryside Roadstand on Stumptown Road (about a mile north of 772) at Mascot with their great freshmade soft pretzels. We also like Evans Candy on route 222 South of Lancaster in an old mill, but they are seasonal, only open October through April,

Welcome aboard BN4625!  We are not too distant neighbors.

Great report and excellent pictures.  The chicken and waffles looks the kind my wife had at Knoeble's a couple years back.  We thought we'd be getting fried chicken and waffles, but this seems to be the PA Dutch style.

Your link google maps link didn't fully post, I believe it's because you are a new member.  If you pm/email me the link I will post it here for you.

Eruby, you are right, the chicken and waffles served at Oregon Dairy is classic Pa Dutch food(Wandering Jew had a very good trip report on it a year or two ago,). My favorite chicken and waffles is the one served every Sunday as a special at Snydersville Diner in the Poconos, but Oregon Dairy's is also very good.

Nice report, thanks. I agree about the prices at the Sturgis Pretzel "Factory Outlet". The prices were higher than I could buy for at my local Shoprite. Wish I had known about H & S Distributors, could've saved myself a few bucks.

A chip and pretzel "Wonderland" is the Weavers Supermarket in nearby Adamstown. The largest selection of Chips and Pretzels I have ever seen.

This link worked like a charm.  I wasn't bright enough to add the 'www.' to what you had in the 1st post.

I love Sturgis Cheese Pretzels. Almost as good a Unique brand pretzel. I used to be able to get Sturgis over in New Jersey, near Phillipsburg, but haven't seen them recently.
