Inlet Harbor for seafood - http://www.inletharbor.com/restaurant.html. Have you been here for bike week before, expect big crowds; especially from Thursday - Sunday.

This place has won the local "Best of" for wings more times in the past 24 years then any other.

Traffic was not too bad. Everyone was very courteous. Bikers are good people. Glad you all had a good time.

What about the ladies washing the bikes on Ridgewood Ave...Pretty funny stuff. those bikes come out spotless!

Well, it's over and now we sadly await the final death toll figures. Many of which could have been avoided, if we still had a helmet law. "Let Freedom Ring" as Martina McBride always says...I guess? But, what a big price to pay for some....

Do people really finish those turkey legs?

Those chicks are hot and can clean? Thats wifey material.I'm all for no helmet law. It actually saves money in med bills. I think the drinking, retarded old blue haired ladies, and showing off on a bike u ride 3 months out of the year for a total of 600 miles has more to do with the fatalities then the helmet law. What was the number this year anyway?

Bob - You're going to start trouble. I'm searching for a better less confrontational me; I've had several articles published about our infamous Bike Weeks. The bikers come out of the woodwork ranting and raving. For some reason they think it's ok for the County Hospital (Halifax) to support their medical problems when they hit their helmetless heads on our streets. Incidently, that County Hospital, is US..The taxpayers of Volusia, who foot the bills for those bikers without medical insurance. But today, I have to say live and let live. I'm glad they had a great time.

How many deaths? I have no idea yet..The "Over Under" is 5-1/2

I've been very critical of Bike Week in the past. The reason Daytona Beach is one of the worst places in Central Florida and I feel in the entire State to live is their reliance on events such as Biker Week and the auto races. Rather than do the hard work necessary to attract white collar industry to their town, the Commissioners and past mayors, supported by the France family, choose the easy way..The way the France (Daytona Speedway)family wants it.

They have access to lots of people, who cannot find a white collar job here and must settle for service industry wages. As a consequence, children returning with a college degree have to move to bigger cities because there's no decent paying jobs here! They cannot return here, be near their parents, and raise their own kids. Not unless they work for themselves.

Enough of politics. I hope that some of those bikers tried our best "Q" place..Hog Heaven up in US 1 neat I-95. The place is great.

Baah, I used to go to bike week as a kid. I've got to say, it seems run better and is more behaved that the poker runs I have seen down in the keys and elsewhere. Those are sausage factories.

For the unfamiliar a poker run starts at point a and goes to point b. The goal is to make the best poker hand on the way be stopping at participating places to pick up one card per place along the bike route. Oh, and the participating places are bars. Get a drink, get a card. Genius at work.

I made the mistake of going to Daytona once, not knowing it was Bike Week.
It was SO loud !! (mostly from those Bikes that purposely are a lot louder than necessary)

Now I need to go back to Daytona, cause I need to try a charcoal broiled Brickyard burger!!

Ellen - My treat...You get back here and I'll buy. I can direct you to all the other good places after that in this area, but trying to keep up with you would put too many pounds on this already expanding stomach at age 63. But, one lunch at the Brickyard will be fine.

Next time you plan a trip to Florida, consider Central Florida. Not sure what your interests are besides roadfood like the rest of us, but if you like relaxing at the beach, we have some beautiful ones that hardly anyone every goes to. Orlando to Daytona is around 55 miles if you want lots to do..Orlando is the place. Lots of people in Orlando have weekend apartment condos in Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach, Palm Coast, etc. If you want to see the sea, you need to go east and that's what they do.

There was a wonderful guy who was the Orlando food scene expert..Bob Mervin. He posted on chowhound and recently passed away at the age 50. He was a really nice guy to converse with on the internet. I know some good places, but he knew them all!!

Baah Ben, we're on for the Brickyard!! I wish you would let me treat you for a meal, too.
(but I understand, as I AM hard to keep up with!)

I do enjoy Orlando; I'm overdue for a trip there , cause it's been about 5 years or so. (I seem to keep bypassing it for south Florida)
Plus, it's real easy to fly there, right from my local Atlantic City airport, 5 miles from my condo.
Spirit Airlines flies non-stop there. And one can occasionally catch a ridiculously low roundtrip.

For instance, I'm flying from AC to Fort Lauderdale on April 12 for 2 nights. $19 each way.
$59.00 including all taxes and fees. (usually I do end up paying more like $200, though)

Sorry to hear about Bob Mervin's untimely passing. 50 is much too young. Maybe I can honor him posthumously by googling up some of his Orlando food reviews, as I had not been familiar with him before.

Hope to meet you one of these months,
                                      ellen

Yea last one crashed the bike on a really slight curve in the rain. Pretty hard to do barring a n oil slick,or completely blad tire. It's never good when the 1,000 mile a year riders show up in large numbers.

Yes, I agree on the whole poker run thing,it's just insane. A bunch of riders going bar hopping to a dozen bars in a couple of hours,of course none drink just coke, but rather lots of rum and a spritz of coke.

                                              Baah Ben,

I'd be willing to bet that without "Bike Week' or racing there would be no Daytona Beach to speak of, perhaps that would be fine for the good people of Daytona...I doubt it though.

Personally I don't attend the big rallys, I more of an independant biker (been riding practically since I could walk) but I'm always amazed when people complain about the big events, Sturgis, Myrtle Beach, Daytona, Laughlin and so forth. I'll bet that most of the same people who complain would be the first to scream if the bikers decided to take their money and bikes elsewhere.

                                              Just my opinion.

Rebeltruce - You are right. There would be no economy without Bike Week(s) and that was the whole point of my post. No town should be basing their economy on such events. They should be spending money on an Office of Business Development to attract white collar industry. My problem is not with the bikers. It's with the politicians of Daytona Beach, who have not understood Economics 101 for the past 30 years!

I do believe that bikers have been instrumental in the establishment and continued success of our wonderful burger joint - The Brickyard Lounge.

Sorry to disagree Baah Ben. I manage a large Hotel on the beach here in Daytona. A quick check of monthly revenues for the years 2003 - 2007 shows that Jun & Jul provide 41.5% more revenue then Feb & Mar. As much as we value Feb & Mar we dearly love to see Jun & Jul roll around.

John - I'd be more than happy to debate this on the "Other topics - non-food related" forum. I just think the site manager and anyone else who could care less about daytona Beach's issues, do not want this under "Trips" that's why I injected the bit about the Brickyard just to keep this food related to a minor extent.

I've been on Big John's radio show several times talking about Daytona Beach. If you want to discuss this further, it's fine with me. We'll just have to get off this forum.
