December in Ocean City

For those of you who come to the Jersey shore only in the summer, I thought I would give you some idea what it it like down here now. Some of the places we like are closed. And the beach and boards are pretty quiet. But there is plenty of parking. Here is a view of Central Ave. at 34th Street looking north And south But even in town the guts are out of the meters, so parking is free. And some things are open.... Can't beat that boardwalk pizza!! And City Hall is ready for Christmas. Merry Christmas!!!

Nice report. There is something serene about locations that are pretty much closed up off-season. The places that are open tend to be comfortable and homey.

Nice job, Chris O.C... one less Trip Report I have to do ..(LOL) I enjoy going to Ocean City occasionally in the off season, as long as the wind is'nt howling too much on that boardwalk.. I particularly like those holiday buffets at the Flanders Hotel, (with the huge turkeys with all the skin, wings, and legs, etc)

This looks like a pretty nice place to go during the winter if you want extra peace and quiet--or want to recover from that recent nervous breakdown.

Louis This looks like a pretty nice place to go during the winter if you want extra peace and quiet--or want to recover from that recent nervous breakdown. And yet, if you want the nightlife, Atlantic City is only 15 miles north!! Plenty of good shows, like Madonna and Elton John and Cher... and for those who enjoy Kid Rock , he's there , too, etc, etc...

Maybe I don't remember from being in Atlantic City as I should have been more surprised but... Boardwalks are really board walks! Imagine that. Nice report. It's so calming for a California girl.

Nervous breakdowns? Nah, we from the GREAT state of New Jersey do not get 'em...BUT we surely know how to give 'em!! Then we go enjoy a nice peaceful day, at the boardwalk. Thanks for the report Chris! I give any business credit, for staying open, in the winter months. Sadly, many cannot operate year-round. Glad to see you got a nice slice of pizza!! I will be so happy, when Christmas is over. I cannot wait until I take my winter AC mini-vacation. I will be schivtzin' and runnin' the boardwalk by day, and gamblin' and...hmmm sleepin' at night. What happens in Atlantic City....stays in Atlantic City!!! Except for the money, if I win big! However, if that is not the case, that too will stay in Atlantic City!!!

Myrtle Beach hasn't looked like that in the winter for like 20 years, and that was the only time of year I liked Myrtle Beach, unfortunately. Lovely pics!

Wow, those parking meters are a deal when in effect. Here they are .25 cents per 15 minutes.

That meter is in the center of town. As you get closer to the beach/boardwalk ours are 25 cents for 15 minutes as well.

Your excellent photography is greatly appreciated. As others have written, it is interesting to experience those seaside playgrounds in the winter off-season.

Great pics! I remember growing up on Cape Cod in the late 50's early 60's. The first few weeks after Labor Day were heavenly! The water was still warm, the days usually sunny and nice, and maybe a sweater for the evenings. Bluefish were biting. The best thing of all........NO tourists or summer folks! I also remember one winter that was so cold, most of Buzzards Bay froze up. It looked like a moonscape of big jagged ice rocks! ( I probably still have the pics i took, somewhere - something to show the grandchildren, when and if, they ever arrive! LOL) But, like your pictures, it was a peaceful and pleasant time. Thanks for jogging this old and somewhat squishy memory!

Great pictures! I grew up 10 minutes away from OC and used to love it in the winter. Let me ask you this. Is Katina's on 9th St still there? I used to love their Gyro's.

I am glad you all have enjoyed a glimpse of the Jersey shore in winter. After NewYears it will be very quiet here until Easter. We also have other perks besides free parking. Lots of specials, the Chatterbox usually has 1/2 price Thursdays - at Mack and Manco they have a weekday lunch special and down in Cape May on Sundays the Lobster House has a take out seafood combination, buy one get one free ($11.95) Thanks for the compliments on my pictures. That's the Kodak EasyShare I picked up on black Friday. Yes, Capt Murdock, Katina's is still selling Gyro's on 9th St. and they are very good.

ChrisOC Yes, Capt Murdock, Katina's is still selling Gyro's on 9th St. and they are very good. Are they open in the winter? If so I think I may have to make a trip to visit my parents soon. And good call on The Lobster House. I love their Clam Bake take-out.

ChrisOC After NewYears it will be very quiet here until Easter. Thanks for the compliments on my pictures. That's the Kodak EasyShare I picked up on black Friday. I like going to the Easter Sunday buffet at the Flanders Hotel.. great carved turkey , with the wings , legs, skin, the whole bird! And in that great old banquet room... as in about 100 years old... the Flanders only has about 3 buffet days there all year, mostly just for special holidays, as you probably know, anyway... But perhaps some of our fellow Roadfooders will want to come check it out I use a Kodak Easy Share, as well... I've got a real lightweight one, and it's 7.1 megapixels. Mines at least 3 years old... Happy winter, chris! ellen in AC
