Deep Fried Double Cheeseburgers

This seems to be an appropriate topic for my "ascension?" to DCB status. Has anyone ever deep fried a cheeseburger? It seems some taco places have deep fried tacos....and of course all the stuff they do at State and county fairs. Anyone personally done it or witnessed one being done? Here is a picture of something I ran across on the web as well as the link to the step-by-step instructions.... http://www.danamania.com/burger/ This blogger said it tasted pretty good! Come on PapaJoe, this looks like it might be right up your alley!

I'm wondering if even Tony Bourdain would want to sample that?

A recent thread on this site brought back the discussion of Dyer's on Beale St in Memphis. They deep-fry their Burgers in 'oil' that "hasn't been changed since before Pearl Harbor".(Their Claim). A photo of some roadfooders enjoying those burgers was posted on the thread. Here's the link to that thread- http://www.roadfood.com/Forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=17503

Right, Al. But these are Beer Battered and the entire sandwich is deep-fried, not just the patties....and I hope they change the grease a bit more often than they do at Dyers... It looks like they used a run of the mill fast food burger to do it. There are possibilities with this, perhaps using a burger of some quality to start with!

Well, my ex(from LA.) used to say "even an old boot deep fried would taste good." I think even he would draw the line here, though.

I can see a couple problems with this item. If you look at the pics in the link, you notice two things. First off, he started with McDonalds quarter pounders. Maybe if it was done with real burgers, that might help. Two, it looks like hay bail twine used to wrap up the burger so it doesn't come apart. Thats kinda a visual turn off to me. And believe me, theres just about no burger I turn down. Home made burger with toothpicks or something holding it together and I might give it a go. Btw, whats next to it? fries?

When I was stationed in Blythville Ark (many, many yrs ago) a friends family operated a BBQ stand. In the evenings we would drop a frozen burger in the deep fryer, lay on a slice of cheese, some shredded Q, fries and slaw. It was definately a unique meal. At a recent party the deep fryer was going almost none stop (actually 3 deep fryers) everything from turkey to the frozen premaid jalapeno poppers, tacito's and onion rings to twinkies, oreos and even red velvet cake.

I hate to be in the minority but the idea of a deep fried burger sorta appeals to me. I have no idea what a batter fried burger would taste like but it seems interesting. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

(Of course, with out my boss there, in case I have to trash it ) We dont use any batter, so its gonna have to be on our grilled sesame seed bun... I probably will be sorry I did it.

Take a hamburger patty (thinner works better), dip in beer batter & deep fry. That is good. Serve with the onion rings you just cooked!

We ate in O'Grady's Irish Pub in Cusco, Peru, South America. Every sandwich was deep fried. I guess that was their take on Irish pub food. There wasn't an Irishman working in the place.

There is a place in Wilmington De "Joes" that has a deep fried cheeseburger called the flatliner.
