Delaware shore? Mon, 11/22/04 6:26 PM (permalink)
I will be in around Rehoboth and Lewes this coming weekend - right after Thanksgiving, so probably won't be in a mood to pig out, but I would like to find some well-prepared seafood... Any thoughts?

I don't have any personal recommendations, and I don't know how much online research you've done, but maybe the following page will help for a start. Hopefully some Roadfooders can give recommendations. I don't know what's still open this time of year, to be honest.

Not everything in Rehoboth is open all year. If Chez la Mer is open, you must get the boulliabaise--it is a seafood lover's heaven. Stoney Lonen has great fish and chips. Eden is open all year, and has wonderful food, seafood and non-seafood. If you are not in the mood for pigging out, Espuma has tapas. And if you are in the mood for pigging out, there is always a Nic-o-boli from Nicola Pizza.

All these places are in Rehoboth. I don't know anything about Lewes.

Enjoy your visit!! I just love Rehoboth!

Grillfish or Bigfish, can't remember exact name. On Rt. 1 on the right as you head to Dewey. You really can't miss it. Past all the outlets and cutoff to downtown.

Thats the Big Fish Grill.Stay to the right on Rt 1 South even as it says "Merge left",its just where the lane drops off (the road construction is suppose to be complete by end of the year). They have a big blackboard on the wall of all their daily specials. So many items that it can be hard to choose sometimes. But be prepared to wait an hour or so,even in the winter, the place is always busy on the weekend.Well worth the wait though. They dont serve lunch but if you can get there before 5 or so theres minimal delay.
On another note,Louie's Pizza,5 doors from the beach,is closing for the season saturday, last chance to get the best pizza in the area till April.

Thanks y'all! I have eaten at Big Fish Grill twice - it maybe a red herring (heh heh), but I found it was better in summer than winter. However, I'd be willing to give it another shot. Chez la Mer sounds nice, too, if open.

There are some pretty good places in Bethany Beach as well. I went to the Crab House in Bethany about a month ago and found it to be pretty good.

We ended up eating at Big Fish Grill for dinner. It was as good as the first time, in the summer; I've concluded that it was that my company was wrong the first time - a boyfriend who dumped me soon after :-b . The portions are pretty huge. We enjoyed a pumpkin-crab bisque, grilled mahi mahi and tuna, and excellent mashed potatoes. The free smoked fish spread with saltines for a starter is really tasty, and you can buy it by the pound. Oh, and the guy sitting next to us said no fewer than 8 times (really got pretty tedious) that his rockfish was the best thing he ever ate.

We had lunch at the Dogfish Head brew pub the next day. I'm not drinking these days but my buddy enjoyed the stout and the pumpkin ale (really didn't taste like pumpkin...). The food was quite good, if a little pricey for lunch.

If you are in the Quiet Beaches area check out Bethany Blues BBQ on Pennsylvania Ave corner of Garfield Parkway. OUTSTANDING BBQ!! Great for families they give the children flying sauces from Bethany Blues.

If you are looking for a extrodinary meal than I would suggest driving about 5 miles west to Millsboro call for directions fantastic Italian restuarant the chef is CIA trained and makes everything homemade from soup (Blue Crab Soup) to an assortment of desserts that are to die for!!
