Delicious "no-name" dinner

Maybe someone has a name for this dinner, but I have never seen a recipe, never found it on a menu, and don't know what to call it---but it is great. A neighbor of mine said it came with her husband. It was pinned to his underwear on their honeymoon. Bob's mother, my neighbor's mother-in-law, made it for him all the time--- it was his favorite meal. Very simple---- -Par-boil 2 quartered potatoes, skin on, per person. -Put them in a pan or oven roaster with a sliced up onion. one per person or maybe only 1/2 if you don't like onions. -Slice up 2 Italian sweet sausages (slices about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick)per person and throw them in -Then add salt and pepper, dried oregano and fennel seeds (as they say in Gourmet "to taste") -Now sprinkle the whole mess with enough olive oil to lubricate and put it in the oven and bake for 20 minutes. About 350 degrees. You can add peppers of any color, shape or size if you desire, but try it without first. Like the old commercial used to say "Try it, you'll like it". But what is the name??????????? Or what should we christen it ???

It's called Salsicce con Torta Dipatate pepare, great eats. A friend of mine, his mother made it quite often. It also can be found as a luncheon sprcial at a number of small Tratoria's here in the Boston area. It also could be called giambotta {gem-bot-ta} as screen bear stated, loosly translated meens all mixed up or leftovers whatever you have on hand. Ciao Jim

Thank you Bear and Jim (chow or ciao "A rose by any other name is a rose is a rose is a rose") I have now got a name to pencil in over the wonderful recipe scribbled in my 4-star cookbook. I even googled GIAMBOTTA and found a similar recipe that I may try---but it is a much more difficult recipe and can not taste any better. Ciao to all, and to all a good night. Good Night Mrs Calabash, wherever you are !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

why was the recipe pinned to his UNDERWEAR? Old World Custom? Lapel on the Tux was taken? Couldn't it more successfully have been glued to the garter? Or would the recipe have made him too hungry on his honeymoon? Yikes!

Tara-------- Thanks for the search, that is the recipe I found after I learned the name of the concoction. I decided that my neighbor's husband's mother's recipe is soooo easy and soooo delicious that I will stick with it. Try it you'll like it !!!!!!!! After you run out of meatloaf recipes, that is. All-a-so Mr Bill Voss----The recipe was not really pinned to his drawers it was just a way the neighbor (Lois) had of saying his mother knew that Lois would find it and know it was important. Ya no watt I mean ??????????

I'm impressed by a "honeymoon" recipe that someone would actually pass on. After she stopped trying to get the marriage annulled, my Father's Mom taught my Mom to make his favorite dish. Essentially it was a can of green beans mixed with a can of stewed tomatoes (might have had some onion in it, but knowing my Grandmother, unlikely). Several months passed before my Dad finally said, "what is this xxxx? my Mother used to make it and I can't stand it." Another family friend was told by her Mother-In-Law that sonny loved liver and had to have it every week. Bride had never had liver in her family and bravely learned to cook it, and like it before hubby finally said I love you but PLEASE never serve liver again.

Women come with a dowry ... men come with a recipe pinned to their underwear ... It just doesn't seem fair.
