Demon Dog Review

OK... The Sterns have done it again! I'm a Chili dog fanatic, yet the most recent review ( http://www.roadfood.com/Reviews/Writeup.aspx?ReviewID=2863&RefID=2881 ) has my appetite going! Demon Dog out of Chicago...



They say it's dressed out with onions, mustard, and hot sport peppers.. Almost looks to me like there may be pickle (celery?) or something tossed in also.. (After downloading the full sized pic and zooming it in...).

Either way, this one has a potential to make my list of Must Visit Dog stands... Any opinions?



Edit: Oh, and them frys do look awesome! Now can we convince these folks to move their stand up to Grand Rapids??

Wait a minute, isn't the Chicago Roadfood tour going on RIGHT NOW, which is Saturday, May 7, not quite 1 PM CDST? Now, that's a PROMPT review!

Demon Dogs is located on the Depaul University Campus (Home of the Depaul Blue Demons) my sons girlfriend is going there this fall and although he was accepted at Depaul, my son will be attending Columbia which is only 3 L stops away. I can't believe we walked right past Demon Dogs without grabbing a dog when visiting the campus last November.

It was going on but Demon Dog was not on the itinerary. We (I was there) went to Byron's and Wiener's Circle. The Demon dog review is posted May 6.

What you see may be the sport pepper and/or pickle relish. Pickle relish in Chicago is glow-in-the-dark green. Unnerving for even a native. And nobody, but nobody, puts celery on a dog in Chi-town. Celery salt, yes. Celery, no.

It is very sad to read about the demise of a good Roadfood place. But I guess when you have so many people praising the virtues of the dollar double cheeseburger, this is to be expected.

It made me feel bad to read what the owner said:

Schivarelli said he's not closing the door on opening another hotdog stand elsewhere, but the very idea exhausts him. And the idea of businesses like his closing as chain restaurants spring up around the city saddens him, he said.

RIP Demon Dogs... Wish I could have crossed paths with you in my travels... All I'm left with is pictures and reviews, just no taste to remember you by.
