Denny's Free Grand Slam
Tue, 02/9/10 3:11 PM
( permalink)
My son and young grandson were brave enough to go for the free breakfast at Denny's. They had a great experience. They sat at counter and the waitress just asked "Anything to drink". They ordered two large orange juices and one coffee. Their bill came to $5.24, with the tax, for the beverages. My son left $10.25. The waitress said "Thanks a lot. People like you have more than made up for the people who thought there was no need to tip on a free meal".

They arrived about 1 PM. There were about 40 people in line. He notiiced that there were 2 empty seats at counter so just walked over and sat down. Grandson loves sitting at counter so it was great for him. On the way out, my son said that they were handing out "rainchecks" to people still standing. I consider that a class act on Denny's part.

Ms. OC and I arrived at the Northfield Denny's about 9:00am. I don't think we waited a full five minutes before we were seated. We had scrambled eggs bacon and sausage it was pretty good except for the skinless faux sausages, When we left there was a much longer line. By the way we were, and are, largely snow covered from a recent blizzard. (Yes, we did tip on the full amount.)

Lot's of Louisville TV News storm coverage yesterday...each segment contained at least some footage and over-dub audio of the Denny's event. Most showed lines out the door in the blowing snow. People seemed happy and any live audio had folks saying it was worth their 'going out in the storm'. Who am I to judge that feeling ! We don't stop at Denny's often, but do late at night when some of the other options may be closed. (Frisch's or Steak n Shake)

Apparently some kids in Rhode Island paid a price for their free breakfasts. Brad

Wouldn't like every homeless person flock to Denny's during this promotion? I would think that it would attract the dregs of society. I would hate to wait that long for breakfast food that I can make at home for cheap. Of course, I live in China and have not been back to the USA in almost nine years, and if Waffle House was giving away food, I would stand outside for two hours. But that's Waffle House, not crappy Denny's.

Actually Denny's is not crappy anymore. Perhaps that is why they offer the free breakfast. Mind you it is not great but it is not too bad for a quick meal.

leethebard For example????? Now this is funny. You mention chain restaurants all the time, pretending that is where your children want to go. Your last post on chain food s was "Top hamburgers"..............you are really too funny. A free meal at Denny's is far better than the places you have eaten (and paid for) at and say are great
