We are planning a road trip from Des Moines to Denver. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding classic roadfood spots along the way?

Forgive me for suggesting a chain, but I stopped at a Runza shop in Nebraska in August for their baked sandwich that includes loose ground beef, onion and sauerkraut. There's a place in Ogalalla NB that's supposed to be better, but you'll find the Runza places by the freeway. I still can just taste that sandwich and the perfect fries!

Sorry if I'm too late, but the Thunderbird Brewery in Kearney has a great coffee-stout and a good patty melt. I respectfully disagree on Runzas--hardly edible my last two attempts!

Are you traveling I80 to I76, or taking a more "varied" route?
