Designer BBQ

Last week one of my co-workers and I went to try out some BBQ places around town to see which one we wanted to cater our Chrismas Lunch. We went to all the big names because we didn't want any surprises at the last minuit. We trid Goode Co., Pappas BBQ, Gabby's and Millers. It seems to me they all tasted about the same, there was no pizzaz to any of their stuff. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this trend of BBQ becoming as generic as TexMex or Olive Garden type Italian. By the way, do any of you Southeast Texans know if Luthers is closed down. We went to where there used to be two that we knew off and they were gone. joe

You did not want any surprises and you didn't get any. Try going to a joint instead of a franchise. There are also guys in Houston who cater cue that would be able to best franchise fare made by some employee.

I just got back from lunch. I specifically took my client to this joint because they have an amazing philly sub with horseradish, cheese, green peppers and onions. Much to my dismay they had replaced that excellent sandwich with shredded beef bbq sandwich…if you want to talk about generic bbq that was it. The only way to remedy the situation was to order a Golden Cadillac for desert.

What I ment is we did not want any last minuit logistical problems. Theedge, Golden Cadillac sounds intresting what is it. joe

I have tried Lulings, Thelmas, County Line even Drexlers at one time were all very good. Maybe it's all the commercial smokers or they all by their supplies from the same vendors. I hate to say it but I drive to central Texas for some good Q. joe

I don't know if William's caters; you might have to pick it up, but it's the best Q in town. A caterer used them for the after-concert party for The-Artist-Formerly-Known-as-Prince-who-is-now-Known-as-Prince-Again and folks were raving about it and wanting to know if they did mail order (they don't). Luther's was bought out by Pappas. Maybe Hinzes? on Mason -- the original in Wharton is awesome but I've never eaten at any of the other locations. After Williams' and Thelma's it's my choice, but I'm on the SW side so it's only 45 miles .
