I am about to begin a road trip on a loop beginning in Ann Arbor, Michigan and then making the following stops: Cincinnati, OH Greenville, SC Charlotte, NC Metro DC (northern VA, Baltimore, etc.) Philadelphia Allentown, PA New York City I already intend to stop at some ice cream places that have been recommended, but other than that, I am not strongly food-focused. Therefore, I was hoping to get a few recommendations for must-stop places along my route (my trip could not be considered complete without stopping). I am especially interested in stops along the way, as opposed to at my final destinations. My criteria are as follows: 1) Relatively inexpensive 2) Good food 3) Probably lunch-time more than dinner-time. Thanks. -Colin

For Cincinnati: your must-stop cheap lunch is Camp Washington Chili - get a 3, 4 (beans or onions added), or 5 (beans AND onions added) way, a cheese coney, and a side order of goetta. A "way" is a dish of spaghetti topped with Cincinnati style chili, the signature dish of Cincinnati. A coney is a essentally a very small chilidog. You probably wont be able to finish all this, but should sample each If you are travelling with others and you share, get a double decker sandwich as well. If you also want to try the best local ice cream, the best known is Graeters - and it is indeed quite good - but the actual local best is Aglamesis Brothers

Greenville, SC 29615 Bucky's is the best BBQ in Greenville IMO and the prices are very reasonable.

^ I can back up that recommendation. I was on a business trip there (8-9 years ago) and got stranded without a car at the motel when my co-worker went off to find a gym, so I started walking. Bucky's was only 2 blocks away and was a great revelation. I wished I was there longer to try some of their other items.
