Diagonally scored grilled hot dogs - you guys are my only hope!

Ok, sorry to bring this kind of question... but it is hot dog related! A year or so ago as I was growing these forums (and it was either this one of the Hot Dog Professionals forum) and I saw an image of a hot dog that had been grilled but more importantly diagonally scored all the way around it, top to bottom. I want to say that the guy either bought or built a device to do this, and I am desperate to do the same! I will pay to license the idea from the owner. Can anyone remember seeing this photo around here? Anyone know who it was, or have a link to it?

PNWCHEF Tips & Tricks Try this site.........pnwc Hey thanks good sir! That is really cool, and I am going to order them to see how it works... a lot of prep work for more than a family picnic, but... hehe However the pic I saw was actually scored both ways, almost like a double spiral cut, in both directions, but not as deep as these. Damn I wish I saved that image! Anyway thank you again for the link!

Akin to having a hamburger that a grillman sqwished all the flavor out of by pressing on the cooking burger, I would think that by scoring, you'd be letting the juices out?

MFL, I like the idea of cutting a design on the dog, I do it for my family. It's hard to see in this photo but, you may get the idea........ I score the dog from one end to the other and then cut an X in both ends......... Frying the dog and letting the fats and juices will not hurt the flavor, in some areas they slice the dog almost in half and grill the dog. The fats needs dry heat to really bring out the flavor and caramelize for a slight crunch...................pnwc

wheregreggeats.com I don't know ... it looks like a fun way to get plenty of char. Yup that's the idea! For me, that's where much of the flavor comes from, and you don't lose a ton (in hot dogs) anyway, but sausages would be a different story. Would not do this with sausages.

You may be thinking about wyndersDOTcom, where they HAD such a thing. They've been "re-stocking" for several months now, and don't even answer e-mail inquiries about the product. I agree, it's a great gimmick, but it seems that it isn't available anymore. I've been experimenting with a home made subsitute using schedule 40 PVC, and a small blade. Just use a coupling, cut a small slit in it at about 45 degrees, and insert a blade through it to make your cuts as you push/twist the dog through the coupling. If I get something working, I'll share it here.

Yeah, Wynders is the closest thing and I appreciate the response, however that is not what I had in mind exactly... if I find it I will be sure to post it!
