Dickey's BBQ Closes

It's Frederick, Maryland location. They hadn't paid the 12 employees for a few weeks, it was reported. They had a prime location in a very busy Mall. Go figure!

I live less than a mile from Dickey's original BBQ location here in Dallas. Yet, I wouldn't eat there on a bet. Their BBQ is terrible and comparable to the "lowest rung on the ladder".
The store that closed in Frederick was most definitely a franchised store and so not all their problems could be related to the food.

A Dickey's just opened up here about a month ago.  Being quite literally the ONLY BBQ joint in 200+ miles, it is packed start to close and is sold out of items on a daily basis.

Dickey's is doing well near my place in Wisconsin. So did Krispy Kreme when they opened a decade ago.

I wonder if barbecue is sustainable outside its traditional range, or just another fad.

Famous Dave's has been in Frederick over 20 years, my BBQ is going on 13, Black Hog in downtown Frederick been around probably 7-8 years, is opening it's 3rd location in the Frederick area, no fad, I don't believe!

If he ever goes to inspect the ICBM silos or supervise the construction of an oil pipeline, sounds like a line the President might like to break!

Would not rank Famous Dave's as "A Good One"

Speaking of Famous Dave's, I was flying back from Philadelphia yesterday and was looking at Delta's Sky magazine. It had one of their regular thumbnail features where a pilot or "very frequent" flyer provides a dining tip.  I don't recall whether it was a pilot or a Diamond Medallion member, but whoever it was, he recommended Famous Dave's as his favorite BBQ place in (wait for it) Atlanta.

Sigh.

How exceptionally odd.  Famous Dave's closed all three of their Atlanta stores more than five years ago.  Also that it would have been anybody's favorite.

SALT LAKE CITY -- A woman who unknowingly drank iced tea laced with an industrial cleaning solution at a Utah restaurant has whispered and gotten out of bed, her lawyer said Saturday.
The progress marks the first sign of improvement for Jan Harding since the 67-year-old was rushed to a hospital nearly a week ago with severe burns to her mouth and throat, according to family attorney Paxton Guymon.
The heavy-duty cleaner that ended up in the sweetened iced tea Harding drank Sunday at a Dickey's Barbecue in a Salt Lake City suburb was unintentionally mixed into a bag of sugar, which a worker later added into the iced tea dispenser, authorities have said.
Harding's breathing tube has been removed, and she was doing well without it, Guymon said in an email.
She had not been able to speak in days, nor had she been on her feet before standing briefly with the help of nurses, according to Guymon. "Everyone is more optimistic today," he wrote. "Any such sign of improvement is good news."

Sad, but true that such unfortunate circumstances can occur when employees can neither read nor write English.

During my second marriage we had similar - but nearly so severe - circumstances innocently created by our various 'household help' Mrs. Metro II imported from her native Bolivia.  (BTW:  we obeyed all laws; after 30+ years and a lot of expense and paperwork, four are now U.S. Citizens).

I commented in another thread about my one and only experience with Dickie's at DFW. Imagine my delight when they decided to open one here in Georgetown TX. Now there are two awful BBQ establishments I can avoid. We had one that was so bad called Duke's that it has now become a church. Divine intervention I suppose. Thou sinners shall not consume lousy barbecue.
