Different look/different sound 25 years apart! Who would have guessed Wed, 04/4/12 7:41 PM (permalink)
I was looking for a song called "The Way" on youtube by a band called Fastball that came out in the late 90's.
Somehow or another I get them and the mid 80's Hair Band Fastway confused- just by name only.

I remembered the band Fastway and wondered what ever happened to the lead singer from Fastway- well It looks like I found out- he's  now the lead singer of a pseudo Irish Punk band called Flogging Molly.

Two videos approximately 25 years apart - two totally different looks and two totally diferent sounds.
I know both songs, I never would have connected the two.

'90s sap-meister Michael Bolton started out in heavy metal in the '70s!

Dale, we discussed this one before, but it is a good example of one band undergoing a dramatic transformation:

The difference with Ministry is that  both the original techo pop/new romantic sound and the subsequent industrial sound although different were both derivatives of punk rock
(even early 90's grunge was a derivative of old school metal, post punk and punk) and also Al Jorgenson's voice obviously processed quite a bit- well you can still almost tell its him.

This guy, Dave King just completely reinvented himself. I looked up his bio- it wasn't even gradual -it was just a complete turn around (although it took 10 years to go from one extreme to the other) even his vocals are completely unrecognizable from Fastway to Flogging Molly.

I remember seeing Fastway in 84- they opened for the late great Ronnie James Dio

        Speaking of complete turnarounds

When Dio was an unknown in the early 60's he was more Frankie Avalon than the metal master he was in the 80's

Here are 1961 and 1983 respectively

he used to play Connecticut all the time in the late 70's
