Just read that 600 people got sick after eating at the Dinosaur BBQ.But they ruled out bacteria and said it was a viral illness spread through air particles...I have personally never heard of that type of situation...

Ann, The classic stomach virus is airborn. Thats why they spread so quickly. Iwork at a daycare and have our twos class was out by Friday with two more victims sent home that day. Since I helped to clean up one of them I have resigned myself to being a victim soon. :(

Incredible risk in the restaurant business. A bad batch of scallions in Beaver, PA took out Chi Chi's everywhere. Idiotic food prep (thawing meat over salad bar vegetables) in Wauwatosa, WI eliminated Sizzler. All it takes is one case of bad luck or one bad franchisee to shut down an entire chain.

How true, JRPfeff. But the overall operations of any restaurant fall on the operational staff of same. The franchisee cannot be at all places at all times. If the franchisee gives a rip, they will insure that proper standards are being met. It's when they DON'T that it becomes their fault.

As I said on another thread, I and some folks from my office will be there tomorrow for lunch. We have every confidence it was a fluke. As noted in the other thread, there is apparently something nasty going around: Per dabu999: "The sad part here is that no one is mentioning that the same symptoms swept through this area during that same period. I know of 50 people in Ithaca, myself included, that had the same illness. I know of no cases where those symptoms were Dinosuar related. The county was overly cautious, as they should have been, but I think we'll find in the end that the restaurant's only fault was being too damned delicious and popular." I expect regulars such as myself will be back to support the joint, casual visitors will return, and life will get back to normal in a while. I hope so for my favorite waitresses sake

According to the article, you are right,Cosmos. The food was not at fault, and closing the restaurant was just a precaution since so many people were traced to just being there.Must be an awful virus!!!

Seven people from my office joined a pretty decent sized crowd..elbowing our way past the TV crews...for a delightful lunch at the Dino today. John was there making sure everything was rocking. I was tempted to have the prime rib portobella madeira soup with a hunk of corn bread, but opted for a pork carolina instead. We were celebrating a birthday so there were a few pitchers involved. It was good to see the size of the crowd. We'll probably be back on Friday for the catfish...and maybe a beer or two...

I hope to get there in Dec. I'm longing for a rack of ribs, the gumbo and their bbq baked beans. I'm glad to hear that the restaurant wasn't at fault. What a blow to Syracuse if they were to have financial troubles. Dino BBQ pre-dates the build up of Armory Square, and helped to make d'town a place to go to when eating out.

That's good news, Cosmos. Although I've never been to the Dino in Syarcuse, we did enjoy the one in Rochester a few years ago and have always wanted to return. cheerrs, John

That is good news, Cosmos. If I lived near it, I would certainly make a point of going there to show my support.

This would not prevent me from going back to Dinosaur BBQ the next time I am in Syracuse or Rochester.

Thanks, good story. I like the guy who ordered the chicken wings. My boss did the same thing, he told John he was ordering the pork carolina because thats what he had two fridays ago. John said ' I like your style'. For the record, its over 24 hours and I'm feeling great

how about this quote!: Dinosaur Executive Vice President Larry Luckwaldt said crews "basically rebuilt the restaurant in two days." now THAT'S a job! I would've liked to have had a camera crew to see that! Some restaurants would've shut down for a month to do that amount of work.

quote:Originally posted by Cosmos A humorous exageration.... agreed. not sure what that was about. But I'm serious with the amount of work they had to do to re-open so quickly. They scrubbed the place from top to bottom -every nook and every cranny. Re-order food to restock supplies that they threw away. re-set up the kitchen, etc. That's a ton of work.
