Do Hot Dogs Require Warning Labels?

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Hot dogs may be as American as baseball and apple pie, but an anti-meat advocacy group says they're hazardous to your health and should carry warning labels.

They only filed law suits against three firms. The judge should make them file lawsuits against EVERY US manufacturer of hot dogs, or face charges of filing frivolous lawsuits. or possibly, extortion. That will effectively bankrupt these kooks.

it's been a known issue - periodically reported by and/or commented on by the media for at least 30 years (if not longer) - that hotdogs and other similar types of prepared 'sausages', as well as deli meats, contain nitrates and/or nitrites and that they are cancer-causing items.

the lawsuit against the companies is completely frivolous.

they should be suing the fda for not requiring warning labels on such products because that's something that THEY regulate, not the companies that make stuff - they just have to follow minimums that are set by the fda.

Just another example of government intrusion. I would prefer to make my own decisions rather than have an increasingly socialist government make them for me. First they try to ban trans fat. Remember how McDonald's fries tasted years ago? When they were fried in beef tallow? For those who care about the health issues, don't eat what you consider to be unhealthy. But don't take away my choices. Next thing you know someone will try to ban frying hot dogs. Then they will try to ban hot dogs made from meat.
These health nazis ought to relax and have a beer. And not a "lite" one either! Follow that with an Italian Hot Dog. A well balanced meal if ever there was one. Bread, meat, vegetables, and potatoes.
Where were these fanatics years ago? Oh, they weren't around. People ate red meat without worrying, doctors smoked, nursing mothers would have a glass of wine with dinner and there were no such things as veggie or poultry dogs. And there were less kids overweight because we were all outside playing baseball every day rather than sitting home playing video games on a computer.
I wish these people would go away.

I have a funny story to tell.
Awhile ago I went into anaphalictic shock after eating a certain meal. After finally getting in to see an allergy doctor, I was tested and found I was allergic to celery (also sesame seeds - but that's a different story).  So, My wife and I now watch all ingredients to be sure I'm safe. Listen to this. Our most favorite bacon - Applewood Smoked Bacon from Wegman's is promoted as being free from nitrates. Well, when checking the ingredients, it appears that they cure the bacon in celery juice...WHICH IS HIGH IN NITRATES!
We've since discovered that virtually everything that claims to have no nitrates is cured in celery juice.
My point is not my allergy, but the amazing discrepency regarding labeling foods.
The anti-meat group should also be suing celery growers!

On the other hand, my belief is that lawsuits are an abomination of our legal system.
(I know...that's for another forum and another day)

PCRM are shills for PETA. It's just another lame anti-meat stunt. PCRM has been continually exposed by legitimate medical practitioners for its fraud and deceit to further its common cause with PETA, which is to ban the consumption of all animal proteins, dairy included. They shouldn't be given the time of day.

A little vitamin C is known to negate the adverse affects of nitrates.
So, pretty much any topping you use on on your Cancer dogs will probably contain enough vitamin C to do the job.

    What, me worry?

Just another example of government intrusion.

How exactly is this an example of government intrusion?

Well, it's more like do gooder intrusion, which may even be worse. A frivilous lawsuit if ever there was one. I don't need these people protecting me from myself. I'll make my own decisions and live with the consequences. And don't patronize me with silly warning labels. Anyone with half a brain knows that certain things (cigarettes for example) aren't good for you.

They're not interested in protecting you from anything.  They are a vegetarian group that will use any tactic to harrass omnivores.

    THIS JUST IN

Just heard on the radio a new study is linking an overactive sex life early in life (whether alone or with someone) has been linked to possibility of prostate cancer later in life.

I swear Im not making this up!

Between eating a bajillion hot dogs over my lifetime and a mispent youth Im a goner!

makes you wonder who is doing all this idiotic studies and what how much of their own bias is involved......

I want to know the exact amount of hot dogs I need to eat a day to have a 50% chance of cancer? I bet its close to 25-50.

Been years since I was the Orkin man , but in our class we had a study of cancer related items.

Cigs were like 8 packs a day for 30 years to get a 50% chance of cancer.

neutrasweet(prob sp) you had to eat like 75 packets a day for 20 years.

So damn it if i am going down let me eat 20 hotdogs a day to do it.
