I don't often drink 12 gallons of Red Bull in a day but I can burn that much driving. I guess I never understood this comparison about how soda (or whatever) was more expensive than gas. I don't need 50 gallons of soda a week, but I do need that much gasoline.

A 1.5 oz. shot of alcohol (no top shelf) sells for $3.00 (on average) in these parts. There are roughly 85 shots to a gallon. 85 x 3 = $255 per gallon

I have always thought that was a ridiculous comparison as well. They're completely different things. And it doesn't make anyone feel any better when gas is $4 a gallon.

I agree it is a ridiculous comparison, and thanks for pointing out that they are different things, I almost chugged on some cheap gas. As ridiculous as it may be, it is also somewhat interesting as there are certain and obvious similarities.

I just bought four gallon-size bottles of no-name/storebrand spring water for $0.79 each. The last time gas cost that little, people still called me "Miss" instead of "Ma'am!"
