I rarely eat dessert out (or in for that matter). I usually find that I don't want to be overly stuffed and that generic desserts are just not appealing. The exception-----a regional dessert such as bread pudding that just completes the experience of being in that area.

I never used to get dessert when eating out but now that I'm expecting my first baby that is all I want - more than the dinner! Especially chocolate bread pudding.

Much to the amusement of my wife's uncle, I usually pass. I look like a dessert eater, but with the exception of Creme Brulee and pumpkin pie, I rarely indulge. My wife lives for dessert and will sometimes stop eating if she is approaching the point of not being able to fit it in. (She's about 1/2 my size.) Her uncle and his wife will order a dessert, then each of them will have a bite from it and the rest goes to waste. (And they think I'M odd!)

I usually pass on dessert when eating out.
An exception is when I find creme brulee on
the menu or something different, not your
usual pie or cake. When the kitchen makes
its own desserts I may give it a try or
take a bite from a dining companion. When
the restaurant buys dessert items from
          somewhere else I usually pass.

At home we pass on dessert but if we are on vacation or a special celebration we will par take in dessert or a after dinner drink.
"Olives" vanilla souffle is the best dessert I have ever had , it took me 5 years to finally taste this dessert. I saw Chef Todd English make the souffle with Martha Stewart and had to try it someday.
In 1999 we went to Vegas and that Olives didn't have the souffle on their menu, i went to other "olive" restaurants in the next few years and same thing... and i finally got to taste the souffle this June while on vacation in Aspen.
It was worth a 5 year wait

              Dearfolk,
Yes, because I have to limit my sugar intake... not to mention those nasty calories.

I rarely eat dessert out unless I know the place has something special I love like a good flan or real strawberry shortcake in season. If I know I want dessert I try to order light to save room for it.

Like everyone else, I hardly ever eat dessert in a restaurant unless we came specifically to just have dessert and coffee or something. I WILL however, try 2 or 3 desserts on a cruise since it's already paid for (in the main dining room) and I know if I don't finish it, someone in my family will. I did, however, eat dessert at a place called Vicki's last week, and it was some of the BEST chocolate cake I have ever had, which to me is hard to accomplish. I usually don't like restaurant chocolate cake, as the texture isn't very soft and the icing always seems to hard and sweet. Maybe I am just picky, though.

Skip dessert? Well... it all depends. There are a few desserts I will never skip- a shared piece of fudge cake in Grand Luxe in Vegas, or the black out cake in any Cheesecake Factory. So... I save room for those.

It was mighty hard saving room when we went on our bbq tours- but I managed a few times for 2 of my faves- peach cobbler, and banana pudding. Yum, Yum.

But normal road diner desserts in a spinning display cabinet- I will definitely skip. Well..... maybe a black and white cookie for the road. ahhahaha

I'm usually too stuffed to eat a dessert at the restaurant, but that doesn't stop me from ordering one to go, if they have something good and homey. Nice to have something later for a midnight food raid.

99.99% of the time PP and I will not order dessert. If it is on a buffett we will usually have some. I have been in a peach pie mood recently and PP has been very nice to me. We developed a recipe using jar'd fruit and Splenda with a lite lattice work top crust.. This cuts the carbs down considerably.
