Do you think Popeyes is a Louisiana Kitchen

I cut this down a bunch but the bottom line it seems to me,you can't be everything to everyone although Popeyes is still trying. Since 1999 Popeyes has tried to regenerate it's self 3 or four times. They are now introducing some new items that sell for $1.49.But as business owners you might note the last paragraph. Popeyes to unveil new identity ATLANTA The 1,901-unit Popeyes Chicken and Biscuits chain will reintroduce itself as Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen in an ad campaign that begins next week, said an official from parent company AFC Enterprises Inc. The new name reflects the brand's heritage of "Louisiana-inspired home cooking," said Dick Lynch, chief marketing officer. He said Popeyes' new "Louisiana Fast" positioning is slow cooking, meets fast food. As commodity prices rise, however, some franchisees of such quick-service rivals as McDonald's and Burger King have complained that value items simply aren't profitable.

I stopped into a Popeyes recently, and they had this strange thing at the register. It was computerized, spun around, like a carnival wheel and announced a "special" bargain offer. My total was around $6.59. The offer was "get 2 pies and a corn on the cob, and make it $8.00" The cashier stared at me, until I verbally declined the offer. Well, I guess to make up for Kentucky being taken out of Fried Chicken. they figure why not put Louisiana into Popeyes. I like the shrimp and fish. I bet now that I say it, the next time I stop by, they will both be off the menu. They are more expensive than other fast food places, and they always play Jazz in Jersey City!

As a saavy consumer, I realize that changing economic conditions will lead to the end of these "value menu items". To answer the question posed by the name of the thread, I never associated Popeye's with a Louisiana-based business. In fact, up here they called their Dirty Rice "Cajun Rice". I always thought it better than KFC and a few other competitors. Now as far as calling themselves Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen, that reminds me of the time Anheuser-Busch stuck it to Coors. Coors built a facility near Charlottesville, VA. I think they brew Coors Extra Gold for the eastern market there. But what Coors was doing was taking Coors Light from the brewery in Golden, CO at double strength and shipping it via rail tank cars to Charlottesville. There, Coors cut the high gravity brew with local water and packaged it. A-B made hay of the fact that Coors used to brag about their Rocky Mountain water but was cutting their east coast Coors Light with east coast water. I can sure see some competitor running commercials of videos of the headquarters building of Popeyes, then showing signs on the Interstates stating "Welcome to Atlanta, Shirley Franklin, Mayor". I don't think Louisiana is a big producer of cheap poultry. Chances are the plant that produces more poultry products for Popeyes than any other single plant is not located in Louisiana. Using telephoto lenses, they could show show photos of this plant and where it is located. The flack for Popeyes is located a mile from where I live here in Noo Yawk City. Ray Nagin ought to have some fun with these jokers.

Popeyes has had the LA menu now for several years, the name change should be of no surprise. Most will still call it Popeyes or Popeyes chicken & bicuits They do a decent job of carrying the LA flavor to the land of the Damn Yankees

If Popeyes ever gets the right franchise owners and the right employees they might become bigger and better in the fast food franchise mix. For now I think they are merely holding their heads above water. But I dearly love their green beens and red beans and rice (when they do not screw them up.)

Wow! In this area none of the Popeye's serve green beans. Like David mentioned the rice is called cajun not dirty. My biggest problem? They NEVER have Pecan Pie, in any of the locations around here. I had it once, and it was pretty good. I even asked when the delivery was expected to arrive, so I could stop by and pick up a slice. Delivery came, no pie.

I understand that the Popeyes chain was started in New Orleans by Al Copeland (of the Copeland's restaurants also) who died awhile back, so technically they ARE a Louisiana chain. They have really strayed over the years, even with the Louisiana locations. For instance, the Natchitoches, LA Popeyes is much better than any of the Alexandria or Pineville locations, but to each their own.
