Do you think less of people…

when they have an opinion that you disagree with? Not, like, doing something you don't like, i.e murder or picking their nose. Just opinions -- thoughts. They may act on them, but assume for the question that it's all in your and their heads. This can be as simple as them liking a food you don't. Do you think less of their character/person because of this? Probably not. It's just food. Or it could be something more serious, like a political or religious difference. Saw you're a liberal, and someone else thinks conservative political ideals are better. Or, you're an atheist and someone else is religious. Do you think less of them because of these differences? Or it could be something that has ever greater impact, like someone thinking that black people are lazy, shiftless criminals or nuclear war is a good idea, and you disagree. Where do you draw the line? Why? Is there even a line to be drawn? How is your opinion of them influenced by their opinions? Conversely, is your opinion of people changed if they have opinions that agree with yours? Why do you think this is? Is it a good thing?

I respect someone with their own mind. If they feel the need to preach, I start the separation process though.

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude...I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you...we are in charge of our ATTITUDES. (by Chuck Swindol, author of attitudes.) Hope this helps, Pink.

I don't think less of someone for having a different opinion. I do, however, think MUCH less of someone for being an overbearing **** about having a different opinion, especially when it takes the form of a holier-than-thou "you can't be right because I'M always right" attitude. There's a difference between having convictions and the strength to live by them and being an asshat.

I don't think less of people who disagree with me. But I think less of people if the EXPLAINATION for what they believe doesn't make sense or is illogical. If people say this is what I believe because I know it and can't offer any more proof, I think less of them.

I agree with this, but add that I am also bothered when someone's explanation is hypocritical. You know the kind, do as I say, not as I do.

I think of most subjects like broccoli. I don;t like it, some people do. So when talking about politics, religion, sexual behavior, etc. I don't think any less of them than I would someone who likes broccoli. There are only 2 things that lower my estimation of someone...I think it is terrible hubris when people think they have the one right answer and it is their responsibility to convert the world to their beliefs. And if someone is intolerant of people with differences, I just can't deal with them.

I'm mature enough to realize we were all created differently. I'm the only person in the world that thinks the way I do. With my career, I deal with personalities every day. I'm very tolerant of different views. Deal with all races, the very rich, the very poor, democrats, republicans, Baptist, Methodist,...well you get the picture. As long as one's actions are moral & ethical, my blood pressure remains level. I will not say it doesn't ever rise. I fully agree with the attitude post. I make my mind up that today is going to be a good day. I go with the flow & make the best out of most situations. It keeps my inner peace in tact. I have found it builds respect from others as they watch my actions of treating every one equal. The same with reading post here. I understand no one else thinks exactly as I do, and I appreciate different views.

No, I figure everyone has the right to be wrong. Take Seafarer John(please) for example. He's ALWAYS wrong, yet I genuinely love the guy.

To each their own. Many people seem to want to control others by trying to expound their thougts and beliefs on others, and then get mad when they dont see things the way they think they OUGHT to see it. Which means to me....... Many people dont want to see both sides of a story, and are anal to openmindedness. Open your mind, you might be surprised at what you might think you didnt like. I am a ver fair person, and have an open mind. Unless I am drunk, then I dont care what anyone else has to say. It is my way or no way at all. Thankfully, most people dont run around drunk, but many sober people act like they are drunk and dont want to open their minds to anything new in their lives. they are stuck in a time line, and have no intention of ever wanting to expand their thinking or want to know anything new or exciting. Many people just want to stick their heads in the sand and live on the middle of the road and fence. They are content to let others run their lives and be happy. Oh well.

Then there's the case of the poor jr. burger who made his/her first post on the News Forum asking a very specific question & got a very rude answer. Can't help but note who the answer came from.....

I dont see any rude answers here. I just see answers that the OP asked for. Unless I am completely off base, and have no clue what lostinthemail is talking about. The OP asked and posters answered.

That's okay roossy - sometime lostnthemail doesn't know what she's talking about either . Wasn't in this thread. It was in another, actually the News section. The original poster asked a legitimate question (his very first post ever at roadfood) & the first poster was a bit - how to say it?? - rude - or at least to me he came off that way. Maybe I've sipped a bit too much sweet tea in the south. I figure the OP will never visit the site again. Several have posted after that answer & no one else has commented about the rudeness. So perhaps it was an inside joke & I was standing outside.

To lostthemail....I agree with everything you said. If you are not a 500+ poster you are not allowed to be "in on it". They (you know who you are) are always shooting down or insulting the small or first time poster. That is why I mostly read and rarely comment. Mike

IMHO< if you cant stand the heat then stay out of the kitchen. I dont think I said anything out of line, and just voiced my opinion, which they asked for. Or did I totally miss the boat? In fact, I am going on hiatus here. I am in lots of pain due to my accident with severe shoulder problems, and also with my work kicking back into season, I have minimal time to devote.

classic examples above, of the difference of opinion.... do yall think differently of each other now??? lmao "you gotta have a mind, for it to be open" if we all leaned on the same side of the wagon, it would tip over.
