Does Anyone Slice Their Pork Anymore?

Growing up in KC, we always had SLICED
Pork available along with Brisket, Ham, and Ribs and some Mutton and Sausage.
This recent (to me) infatuation with Pulled Pork that seems to have gone Nationwide has me wondering if there are any holdouts around our country? Does EVERYBODY pull their Pork these days?
Thoughts?

Plenty of sliced pork in the South. Most restaurants I know offer pulled or sliced and some (like Ridgeway) only offer sliced.

Cool Larry. Perhaps it is that out here in the PNW, all these places opening seem a
combination of styles from all parts of the country.
These really isn't a "native" style.

Speed Queen, Milwaukee's premiere down and dirty 'Que shack, slices their outstanding pork. In fact, I don't think pulled pork is even an option there.

Lexington-style barbecue joints in NC offer sliced as well as chopped and coarse-chopped meat. Pulled pork is not at all common in NC's best spots.

In answer to the question. In NC, I found sliced pork to always be an option, especially on a dinner plate. Pulled pork tended to be sandwiches and such - that's not to say you couldn't go just about anywhere and order a pulled pork platter, but sliced would always be an option too.

Typically, though, the sliced meat was further from the bone, and the pulled meat was closer to the bone. I prefer the closer to the bone meat, IMO, it's a little sweeter. So I often ordered the pulled pork.
Not saying I didn't have my share of sliced pork.

    Sorereader,
I admire your tact! Thanks for going the extra mile to maintain the HIGH standards of the site. I do recall hearing somewhere the words you used about the sweetness of the meat as one gets closer to the bone!

My 'local favorite', Moonlite BBQ in Owensboro,KY, offers both sliced and chopped Pork and Mutton. They only serve sliced Beef (no chopped). Over time I have built up a preference for their sliced Pork. It is thick-sliced, more like chunks rather than thin-slices. With the Mutton, I will take a little of the chopped variety. While I like the Mutton, a little goes a long way. The Beef is fine as it it is. It tends to be fall apart tender, which may be great for some folks, but I prefer my Beef to have just a tiny bit of chew left in it. Not Steak Chewy, mind you, but enough strength to need a fork to 'cut' it. Their slice of Beef are just under a half-inch thick. The "end" and "Near End" slices are usually just the way I like them !

Well, you're right mr. Mayor. This new trend toward Chopped up Brisket seems even more strange to me. I guess I'm just a sliced kinda guy.

I prefer the cuts that lend themselves to pulling.

I'm visiting mom and got a small butt yesterday and cooked all day (I expected small = less cooking time: Wrong) ... Anyhow after 14 hours of mom telling me you can't cook anything at 225 degrees, she was quite happy with the results. I pulled half and made BBQ spaghetti with the rest (using Interstate sauce) ... Quite good.

Depends on the cut of pork. A shoulder should always be pulled or *cough* chopped. A ham is sliced usually. A pork loin sandwich is the definition of sliced.

I pull shoulders and butts, loin gets sliced. I'll pull a leg or 2 occasionally as well.

Ridgewood does fresh hams, so they are sliced.

I would imagine even if you tried to slice a picnic shoulder, it would end up looking as if it were chopped.
