Seeing as I rarely eat at McDonalds, Burger King, Hardees, or Wendy's because there burgers have become horrible. I also cant even eat a french fry at Burger King. Do any of these establishments still even have a griddle or is it all microwave now?...Russ

McDonalds uses soem sort of new contraption whre they throw the frozen patties into some sort of heating unit (plastic type drawer)..UGH It's all so sad isn't it. What would be so difficult in creating a chain where they actually use a gas char broiler for their burgers and chicken...I guess the problem is the help..Training and maintaining consistancy. Pizza Hut and Domino's were able to come on the scene with the invention of the conveyor oven...It took all the guess work out of when an employee had to take a pizza out of the oven... So, the smart people simply forego these types of places and give our business to the independent restaurants who still do it the good old fashioned way.

McDonalds is the largest purchaser of American beef which is all USDA inspected. Of course the burgers are beef. Even Roadfooders occasionally have a Big Mac...along with the fries.

I don't know, I read the companion book to "Supersize Me" and don't eat anywhere near as much fast food as I used to. But also I'd rather support the independent little guy. Dave

I believe that the initial on-premises cooking of hamburgers is done in a device like this:

They are importing beef from New Zealand and Australia, there is a beef "shortage" in the US.

I know that the big chain truckstops cook most of their meals in the nuker including steaks. They all come cryo-vac'd in marinade and then they nuke 'em. I found this out when I asked for a steak that wasn't marinated. Also, I rememeber this poor trucker trying to explain that he wanted his steak cooked on the grilltop because the nuker made the texture very grainy. They couldn't understand him. They put the same steak on the grilltop. Your doing what we should all do. Just not eat there anymore.

Not reading any other comments, everyone knows McDonald's doesn't fry their burgers, so they know darn well McDonalds doesn't grill their burgers.

NO MORE MICROWAVED BIG MACS? "The key element of the new approach is keeping the bread, lettuce, onions, and all other nonmeat sandwich ingredients fresh -- and thus away from the wilting heat of the holding bins and the zap of the microwave oven. Whereas before, fried meat and toppings were assembled on a bun, then tossed under a heat lamp and finally microwaved just before serving, now the cooked meat is kept warm all by itself. Once an order comes in, it is placed with fresh ingredients on toasted bread and put on a tray -- bypassing the microwave." "Not only do the sandwiches taste fresher under the new method, called ''Made for You,'' the company says, but customers can ask servers to hold the pickles or ketchup without having to wait several extra minutes."

There's a Pilot truck stop right here in Braselton at Exit 129 on I85. Attached to it is a McDonalds. pb
