Does anyone order milk while eating out?

Obviously just for people who drink milk. I drink at least a glass a day at home but I probably haven't ordered it while out for 15-20 years. I don't know if most places even have it on the menu but I know most of the FF places do. I would be most likely to order it with breakfast as opposed to other meals.

I have a friend who believes I should be touched or honored because she would drink milk from my refrigerator. Something she never does except for when she is home. Some people keep their refrigerator a hot mess! My goodness...I know I am like clean drunk at times but still. This is the place to store the perishable food. Yikes. I have seen too many crates full of milk sitting in the hot sun waiting to go inside a restaurant for oh so long (nobody I know personally) to be able to understand the motivation to drink it while out.

Most diners in the NYC Metro area have it on the menu.

If ever on the fence about whether a diner is a charming throwback full of character or just too dicey...see if they are serving rehydrated powdered milk as a beverage. That is a good test.

Growing up there were 2 kinds of people regarding drinking glasses of milk at meal time: the Jews (we did not) and the Catholics (they did).

I don't, for a wide variety of reasons, even though by myself I go through at least a gallon a week at home. 1, Haven't been anywhere ever that serves skim milk, which is all I drink. 2. No free refills on milk. 3. Refuse to pay $1.50 for an 8-ounce carton of milk. See #2 in an endless loop with #3.

Depends on the restaurant. If it is mostly a breakfast house and they use a lot of milk then I will order the largest glass that they have. Milk has an expiration date and if you have a problem with their milk then I would have them check the date. Just common sense. I never drink milk with dinner. Usually a cocktail before dinner, a beer or wine with dinner and an after dinner drink when I am out. David O.

Hello All, I never drink milk. The last time I drank milk was in elementary school, and it was chocolate milk. I am very bad in that I like sodas with my meals. (My parents insisted on water with meals.) I like the sweetness of Dr. Pepper or Coke with the various flavours of the food I eat, especially salty foods. I like a beer before and and after a meal, but during the meal I must have a soda. Milk makes my stomach upset. And, no, I will not take those lactose pills to drink milk. The cost of those pills will cut into my beer budget. Take Care, Fieldthistle

Common sense is that if the milk has turned or is getting close to turning...that is what matters to a patron. Milk goes south for a variety of reasons before the exp. date and the restaurant should be checking the quality of milk (no matter what the exp date says) constantly. When you have an issue as a patron you do not ask to go check this or that because they can always come back to you and tell you that the date is fine (even though the milk is not fine). Ok but there is still a problem with the milk and that is already too much involvement for a patron. Milk is bad. Send/take it back. Replace it with a different beverage. Also exp. dates for milk are a joke here... Best is used by... exp date in NYC exp. date (which has a shorter window by at least a few days) So if I buy a gallon of milk on Staten Island and take it home....hmmm.

At home I drink a lot of milk and it is almost all skim milk. In the days before the Golden Arches and drive through we had hamburgers made to order in places like Dobb's House and Toddle House. The former had that great , never replicated blackbottom pie and both had very good chocolate icebox pie. A piece of pie with a glass of milk was a luxerious dessert. That was before the day of skim or reduced fat milk being readily available. Eventually Dobb's House and Toddle House merged but I don't think you'll find one except maybe near Memphis. Today the good chocolate icebox pies are mostly gone. In my area, Chik-Fil-A has a fair chocolate ice box box pie, and Waffle House a so-so version. Much less reason ever to order milk!

I don't drink milk; Pepsi is my drink of choice for all meals. It can even take as much as a month for me to use up a pint of milk in cooking, but I add cheese to almost every main dish and salad that I prepare, and I also enjoy ice cream every once in a while.

If a diner has one of those big boxes with a gravity fed milk, I'll order milk -- especially at breakfast. I've never had a disappointing milk from one of those boxes.

Sometimes when I'm pigging out at Dallas Hot Wieners I order a glass of milk with my "two with everything" (they draw the milk directly from a cooled container on the back counter). Milk goes surprisingly well with the spicy hot dogs. Cheers, John

I will sometimes, but if you are ordering a value meal from a fast food place, it should come with 2 milks. 16 ounces is 16 ounces.

Pigiron Growing up there were 2 kinds of people regarding drinking glasses of milk at meal time: the Jews (we did not) and the Catholics (they did). I still prefer to drink milk when eating pizza. That's how all us Micks did it in my family. Also like peanut butter & matzo with milk for a snack.

I rarely if ever do but my wife often asks for a glass of milk with ice if she orders cake or cookies for dessert. At Max & Erma's for example you can order 6 fresh baked cookies when you order your entrees and they come out hot and fresh out of the oven. She always gets milk there. Also, my mom's favorite combo in the world in to get white castle's (no cheese) and milk.

Now and Then I will order a large glass of milk, usually at a 'breakfast place' I do not do that at any FF places where the milk is in the 8oz paper containers. If the place doesn't seem to have large glasses (16 oz size is a large to me) I stick to my 'sweet-tea' for a beverage at most meals. For Tom, I can't imagine anyone wanting Milk as the beverage of choice to go with BBQ ! Beer, Soda, or Tea fill that mission.

Greetings, AL! I like icecold milk together with a "Döner", a trad. german hot "Currywurst", the very hot stuff, a Coke does not work, a glass of milk is just heaven, besides a very "hot" dish. No, no Milk-Shake, pure milk, 0.5 liters... Cheers... Michael

I love ice-cold milk, always have, and I can't imagine breakfast without it ( I'm not a coffee drinker. ) Same goes for any kind of pastry; pie, cake, whatever ... gotta have cold milk. To my knowledge, I've never been in a restaurant or fast food place that didn't have milk on the menu. Of course, there is that fried dough stand at the Mall of America back in June...
