Today was first day of selling BBQ from the truck-made a big 2 sided sign that said RIBS on one side and BBQ on the other, sat it by the road and found out I need to bring alot more next week. Went over really well. Anyways, doing a blue grass music festival sat & sun. Its about 2hrs away so Ill just stay over for sunday. Ive been trying to get into this for about a year (its 3 times a year). Thery sent me an e-mail this morning and have been readying everything since 2 pm. Entry is $200 and there should be about 5000 people each day. Theres a bunch of carnival type food there (elephant ears pizza, funnel cakes etc.) No one with the kind of stuff I offer. Ill be doing breakfast (no body does any breakfast! and rolling out the new BBQ offerings. It is really great tasting and if I can keep myself out of it should do real well with it along with my usual menu except for the wings. Camera wont be here till next week. The whole family is coming for this one, cooler/freezer trl is stuffed full of everything. Im real excited!

Hope you do well. Just wipe the sauce from corner of mouth before taking orders.

We were supposed to do our first multi-day festival this weekend. It was canceled a week ago. We figured our biggest seller was going to be breakfast because it was just us & one other vendor with a 15,000 crowd camping. There were 15 vendors doing other things but not breakfast. We were going to do bacon, ham or sausage egg & cheese toasters or biscuits. Biscuits & gravy, and Danish or honey buns with orange juice or coffee. I think serving breakfast at a multi-day fest with camping is a sure winner.

I can knock out made to order specialty filled omelets in no time. Biscuits and gravy, is there anything simpler to make? Used to be mostly a southern thing but now everybody wants it. Too many festivals/events sellers just dont think beyond some donuts and coffee. people are amazed when they can get real fresh made pancakes and such. I really enjoy doing breakfast, the only problem is deciding just when to shift to lunch.

You'll be the only food there and you can do breakfest lunch dinner and stay open late. email me or PM me if you want his email. I did their spring rally and did OK

UPDATE Well they lied to me about the expected attendance. They said about 5000 each day. Saturday was about 8900 and Sunday was 7000! I'm guessing no one told these people the economy is in trouble as they were too busy spending money and having a great time. We were set up for breakfast and ready at 730 for the sellers that were there and the crews. Did a real brisk business until the gates opened at 9am, no performers were scheduled to appear until 11am but these people were serious and flooded in the moment the gates opened. The smell of cooking bacon and the cue being heated up was like a magnet for them and soon we were swamped! Out of 30 dozen eggs and 25 lbs of bacon we were left with 14 eggs and about a pound of bacon. Luckily there was a Sam's club not too far away and I was able to send someone there to get what we needed for the rest of sat and Sunday too. Cost a lot more that way but what are you gonna do? People could not get over the fact they could get a real cooked breakfast! And they about wet themselves when they saw the lunch/dinner board. Did a real smooth transition to lunch and just kept going all day to 11pm on sat. Never underestimate your family in situations like this. Everybody including the grandkids jumped right in and hit all their marks all 2 days. (the oldest is 9 and she is a whiz on the register-up sells these people like a carnival barker-we set her up outside of the truck on a table with the coolers of soda and under a canopy with her younger sister running the order slips back to the truck window where she would gather up the ready orders and hand them to my daughter-it so cool to watch them and they love doing it). Glad we brought an extra tank of gas. Glad we brought the motorhome too, when we were finished cleaning everything up it was almost 1230 and time for a well earned sleep in the cool AC! Fans had a choice of leaving and coming back next day or pitching a tent and staying overnight. Sunday breakfast was more insane as they were waiting right at 730 for the food and we started lunch early as we ran the breakfast stuff dry. Sunday ended at 6pm and we were running on fumes by then.Cleaned up, packed up and began our slow little parade home. I almost get a little misty eyed when I am reminded time and time again just how great this old truck can make me money. Never been a real fan of bluegrass music, but it really grows on you and everyone was terrific after awhile you find yourself humming along. The crowds are real polite and thankful for everything. Definitely want to go back in December but with a lot more stuff and the other truck too. I was very very impressed by the people and how in control they were, never any trouble whatsoever, maybe it was the music. Sold every last bit of the BBQ-out of cheesesteaks-meatballs etc. literally came home empty on almost everything. I always over estimate what we need pretty well and then take some more “just in case” but this one really caught us off guard. Where else an you legally make this kind of money in just 2 days? IT WAS A BLAST! But man is that bed gonna feel good. P.S., 2 PEOPLE CAME BY DURING ONE OF OUR MANY RUSHES AND ASKED IF THIS WAS SPUDS TRUCK FROM ROADFOOD- SUPPOSEDLY YOU TOOK PICTURES BUT DIDNT LEAVE YOUR NAME-PLEASE CONTACT ME OR POST THE PICTURES HERE. THANKS

Spud, do you know what the total gross was for the event. If you were that busy, you should still be counting(or at least rolling around in it, LOL) britt

Certain people get offended when I quote figures on here. Lets just say if every person there came to see me, I would have made .70 from each of them. you do the math. not bad for 2 days

That's kind of refreshing in that you got lied to in a GOOD way. Usually it where they claim 5000 attendance and you only get 1000. I'd rather run out of food than take 3/4th's home.
