LyndaB, DD has a big bakery on Airport Rd. in Hartford. over 3 years ago I worked for the trash company that emptied their trash & cardboard compactors. I remember seeing flour bags, mix bags & some boxes of frozen special stuff but I don't remember exactly what the frozen specials were. the bakery is located right behind the store on Airport Rd. & locust St.

Starfood I prefer local mom and pop donuts! So do I, though for me that is a 90 mile drive. So I have found a new joint close to work on West Broad in Richmond's far west end, called Daylight Donuts. It is part of a small chain and the donuts are pretty good, better than either Dunkin or KK.

Mom and pop places are still the best for donuts, but Daylight Donuts does a pretty decent job for a chain.

In my opinion, the only thing KK has going for it is their signature glazed doughnut, which is the best I've ever eaten. Beyond that, give me Dunkin' on everything thing else, especially the coffee. It's been my favorite coffee for 30 years.

mjambro Back when DD made their donuts fresh (on site), they generally had an excellent product. Now (many years) that they ship them around the country from a few central bakeries, they are really crap - tasting like week-old, highly preserved products). Then again, even though they are usually fresh, I've never found a KK to be of much interest, tasting too much like Wonderbread with a lot of sugar. When it comes down to a donut, I agree fully with a previous poster. After having an Allie's donut (N kingstown, RI), there's not much interest in having one elsewhere. Then again, DD is more interested in selling coffee. Donuts have become a sideline for them (and certainly NOT worth wasting one's intake calories on them). i'm with you............... the big box theory has destroyed DD (central bakery's) ....... KK, i only would only do fresh, nothing like a small home town bakery/ doughnut shop....... many long gone, we had mickey's doughnuts ,and many bakery's made super products...... it's all going away, i'm also a fan of Tim horton's , there making there way into the states, so, now it's getting really interesting

A franchise of DD has opened a bunch of stores in the Phoenix area the last few years BUT, They don't sell the donut that made them famous!!!! The Knob Handle Cake Donut! They also dropped the Toasted Coconut. Claimed to protect people with allergies.

Foodbme Someone bought the DD Franchise rights to the Phoenix area and has opened a bunch of them here. They're not the same product mix as "Back East". For example, they don't make the original Old Fashioned one with the knob handle on it. That was their Signature Donut! And they don't make the Toasted Coconut either. Ain't the same. there whole line has been revamped............ long gone , the dunkin doughnut , the jelly stick , chocolate toasted coconut, on and on it go's with them...... i visit a DD outside of AC , THEY have six new flavors , done cake style , bananas foster, chocolate cherry , carmel apple, strawberry banana........ can't recall the other two.... sounds good , right? ................... there bird food........... i've tossed them right out for the birds !!!!!! Claimed to protect people with allergies. mine still has this.................... but i only go for the coffee

Sorry - but both can more than often be mediocre to lousy We have some good - though still hit and miss - mom and pop shops in Northeast PA. The cake donuts from Sheetz (convenient chain) are actually pretty good.
