Doughnuts in Houston? Thu, 10/28/04 6:50 PM (permalink)
Anybody know of any good doughnut shops in Houston? There are a bunch of them. Normally I'd just try out a few, but I'm out here with my Dad and he's not much of a doughnut eater, so I've got one shot and that's about it.

I don't know if I can help you, I'm not much of a donut fancier. Christy's is a small shop at the corner of West Gray and Montrose. I've always been pleased with what I've had there. I think they close by mid-afternoon.

Shipley's is one of the big local chains. This question came up several years back in a local forum and for some reason folks thought the Shipley's on North Main was the best of the lot. I've never been up there.

There are only a couple of us from Houston who post on Roadfood. Go over to our local website b4-u-eat.com and check out the listings for donut shops and beignet shops. That's not a complete list -- the N. Main Shipleys is not there nor is the one nearest me where I go for the sausage and cheese kolache - but you might find something close to your part of town. Krispy Kreme is everywhere and also available in a couple of supermarket chains.

Cresent City for beignets. Their coffee is wonderful.

and I have never been here, but a guy who works nearby to us swears by this place and always brings boxes of them for their monthly meetings:
