I will be up in Douglas GA next weekend to judge a que contest. Are there any Roadfood type places in the area that you all would recommend? Thanks much. John

There used to be a bar in downtown Douglas that served steak and salad for $ 5.00 which was cooked on a gas grill out on their back deck. It is probably double that now but was a good place back in the late 1980's. I don't remember the name.

RibDog, You've been very helpful on this forum. See my "Thanks All" thread on the "Where Should I Eat" forum. We've traveled to Douglas for several years now for college baseball and usually end up at the Old Times Country Buffet south of town on Peterson. It's definitely NOT a chain and has home cooking. Unfortunately, it's a little dirty, worn, spotty service and the food quality is, at best, inconsistant. So this is only a half way suggestion. Sorry, but it's the best I can do.

Your response is very well received and will very much be considered. I checked the yellow page listings for douglas and saw that they did have many "chain" restaurants. As you can imagine, that is definitely what we are looking for. But there were some others that did sound interesting. Including one catfish restaurant. I will give an update upon my return. And thanks again. John

Steve, I don't think I found the steak place you were talking about. The only place that came close was The Fern Bank. But I did not get a chance to try it. A police officer said that they do serve the best steak around though. We did eat at The Catfish House on 441 on the north side of town. I really enjoyed it. I got the catfish filet dinner for $8.99 which included cole slaw and choice of potato. Plus a plate of hush puppies and pickles even before we ordered. The dinner had ten pieces of catfish on it and it was especially good. We also tried a mexican place called El Potro(sp?) which I did not realize was a chain. It was not great but not bad. They had a dinner buffet for $6.99. Thanks for all your help. John
