Downtown Richmond, Va Sun, 10/10/10 9:47 AM (permalink)
Hi all,
I'm going to be in Richmond, Va to see a show at the National. Any suggestions for some great places for pre-show eats ?? or for breakfast the next day??

What's your budget and what kind of food are you interested in for dinner.  BBQ, fine dining, country, Ethnic or what.  Thanks.
Black Sheep is good.  Buckhead's has good steaks. Buzz and Ned's is good BBQ and Capital Ale House is lots of fun.  Comfort has good lunch and dinner also.

Are you looking specifically for downtown Richmond only? If not, I have a few recommendations 5 miles or less away.

I was with a couple of other roadfooders last spring at Buz and Neds and we all thought it was somewhat of a let down. They have ordinary BBQ however their sweet potato fries and fried apples are really good.

I used to go to the 6th Street Cafe ... It was good then, can't vouch for it today.  Country breakfast.

Thanks for the suggestions. BBQ would be good. I not really interested in fine dinning on this trip.
          Thanks again.

I'm looking for downtown. Once I check into my hotel I plan on not having to drive anywhere.
I'm not interested in any "fine dinning" on this trip. Just a place with cold beer and great tasting food before the show.
            Thanks.

First of all, if it's anywhere near lunch time, you're a one block

south and 15 blocks west trip to a box lunch from here:

              http://www.sallybellskitchen.com/

If it's dinner you're looking for and from the National specifically,

you're a nine block trip west on Broad to here:

              http://www.comfortrestaurant.com/

And just a three block trip south then less than

two block trip west on Main Street to here:

               http://www.caferusticarva.com/index.htm

I've been to all three places and would highly recommend them all. That said, the aforementioned

Sally Bell's is the quintessential RoadFood find in the former Capital of the Confederacy.

McLean's -- highly recommended by Wandering Jew and others -- will be moving about four blocks east on or about November 1.
