smarchit- I hadn't heard about The Twin Hi-Way Drive-In reopening....that is good news. That is the one right next to Butya's Lounge, isn't it? I could definitely see myself getting some fish sandwiches at Butya's and taking them into the drive-in sometime this Summer.

We have a dive-in in the Worcester area of Ma. called Mendon. As I understand it the concession stand is outstanding. Many people go there just for the food alone. TMiles an active poster here might be able to shed further light on this as he lives in that area. The last movie I seen at a drive-in was Ben Hur. Chow Jim

I remember going to the drive-in across the street from Indianapolis Raceway Park to see Jurassic Park not realizing that a race was running that night. When the race started, even with the speaker turned up to full volume I couldn't hear one word of the movie.

Oh wow. I have such great memories of going to the drive in as a kid. In the 70's we went to the Bay Drive on on Rt 37 in Toms River NJ. Sometime in the 1980's it became a housing development. My sister and I would wear our pj's. We did not have much money but it was pretty economical for a family of 4. I remember playing on the swings before the movie, the funny comercials with the dancing/singing food. I remember seeing Close Encounters of the Third Kind there and seeing that on a huge screen as a 7 or 8 year old was just awesome.

On a recent trip thru Southwestern Colorado, we passed a drive-in movie where you can watch the movie from your hotel room! Never seen anything like it. It was in the town of Monte Vista, Colorado.

I actually just went to my first drive-in movie this weekend- we saw a double feature of The Simpsons and Transformers (I slept through the Transformers!) We went to the Keno Drive-In in Kenosha, WI. The Cascade Drive-In in West Chicago, IL is their sister theater. It was a lot of fun- next time I'll know to bring some camping chairs and bug repellent! It's a bit of a drive for us, but with the right movie combination it's definitely something we'll do again! http://www.kenodrivein.net/ http://www.cascadedrivein.com/

The new drive in of the future semms to be: keep your eye on this new Idea. A lot of downtowns are buying projector TV equipment and hanging sheets on buildings and showing movies for familes and selling from concession stands. We recently had a car show and at night they did this, They showed American Graffity. So get in the ground floor, buy the equipment and rent yourself and the equipment to organizations. Later Cowboy Bob in PA

Yeah, they do those here in Chicago, in various parks. I also just heard a story about something similar on NPR, these people who to these sort of guerrilla movie showings using a projector and the side of a building. Sometimes the police shut them down and they just find a new place.
