NY hot dogs are very limited. Most places are street cart "dirty water" or boiled hot dogs, usually Sabrett. Papaya King serves a great grilled dog, as does Nathan's. For the best dogs, let me suggest running over to New Jersey. A great variety of quality dogs in all different styles; dirty water, grilled all beef, grilled beef and pork, deep fried, Texas Weiner, Italian Hot Dogs. Connecticut also has a great number of quality hot dog joints. Check the other threads on the hot dog forums.

If it's on any Saturday before Christmas, stop by my cart, so you can experience the first and finest product you'll eat. And I guarantee it! E-mail me for directions and business hours. We're located off I94 at Mall Drive exit HWY 165, north of the Illinois state line. CSD

Since you'll probably be taking the Ohio Turnpike on your journey from Chicago to Boston, you'll be passing by Toledo. I've heard great things about Tony Packo's in Toledo (mentioned by Klinger in at least one of the "M*A*S*H" episodes), although I haven't gotten a chance to eat there. Here is a link to their website. http://www.tonypackos.com In D.C., you might want to try Ben's Chili Bowl. http://www.roadfood.com/Reviews/Overview.aspx?RefID=1284

Very different from Chicago, NJ, CT and NY style dogs.

In NYC, try the dog at Katz's -- if you can resist pastrami, that is. A class act!

When you head out of New York, don't take the NJ Turnpike at first. Take either NJ3 from the Lincoln Tunnel to NJ21 North for Rutt's Hut of Clifton. Alternatively, take US 46 and stop by the Hot Grill, also in Clifton. Both are described on this website and well worth a minor detour. In either case, you can double back to the Turnpike or take the Garden State Parkway South to reconnect with the Turnpike (I-95) in Central Jersey. You'll be glad you did.

Hey, thanks for all the responses! I completely fogot about Super Duper Weenie. We just ate at some other place, and like 1/2 hour later we drove by and I saw the sign.....believe me I kicked my ass for snoozing on that one. One place we went to in NYC was Crif Dogs.....pretty damn good. But we were only there for one day, I definiltey need more time to see the city, and eat the dogs.
