If he didn't have those "few" good years in Brooklyn he never would be talked about today. Never would have made the Hall of Fame. He came back to NY to spend his last days as a Met. Duke got out of LA while the gettin was good.

Of course, those were his golden years. I'm just saying that he was an LA Dodger just like a Brooklyn Dodger---and ALWAYS the Duke. Both cities can be proud of him.

OK Ed----as long as we had the GOLDEN years. He really was a nice guy. Duke made a catch that has been overlooked because other guys have done pretty much the same after they saw how it was done. In Ebbets Field the center field bleachers were padded with rubber because of Pete Reiser who ran into the previously unprotected wall a number of times. Duke ran up the padding to catch an otherwise homerun ball, way over the top of the wall----a terrific catch in an important game. At the time it was unique---Duke was a great athlete, and always a gentleman. (Even if he was from LA). For further proof refer to my Rex Barney story.
