El Pollo Loco coming to Massachusetts

I just drove by a new (soon to open) el Pollo Loco restaurant in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. As far as I know the first one in this area. For those of you that are familiar with this chain, opinions? favorite menu items?

In my experience: overcooked, dry chicken, uninspired sides. Eminently forgettable.

It's good enough for Massachusetts. It's not held in very high regard here, though.

We used the local stand in SoCal now and then. The 8 piece chicken with flour tortills were a decent price. I used to order it "well-done" after getting a couple of chickens that were still pink inside. One other menu item we liked. The Black Bean Bowl. We haven't been to a stand in 5 years, but back then it wasn't bad when compared with the KFC alternatives. Today, I would rank it pretty far under Popeye's, my current FF Fried Chicken favorite.

I'd definitely take a Costco rotisserie chicken with a can of refried beans over it, but it is certainly a healthier option than fried chicken. Make sure and ask for extra salsa!
