El Ranchito, Zillah, Washington ... Closed ??? [UPDATE: A REPORT FROM THE FIELD.]

I'm in Yakima this morning, El Ranchito, 20 miles up the road in Zillah ... ... has always been one of my very top places -- especially for breakfast ... So I drove there this morning. Sign in window: "Closed October 24th, 2007 thru February 8, 2008" ... pretty specific, but puzzling ... and disappointing.

Gregg- I agree with you about this place, it is terrific! As good as the food is, we especially loved the huge assortment of Mexican sodas available. At least this closing is apparently only temporary. Sorry you went there for nothing!

The specific dates really baffled me ... made me wonder ... something tells me I'll call before heading there if I am around on February 8th ...

Gregg- For me, the fact that the dates are so specific is what makes me definitely believe that it is only temporary. Or at least I hope so! If I remember correctly, the owners are originally from Mexico.....maybe they are visiting family there for a few months.

One of my favorite spots closes the sunday after Turkey day until January 2 each year. So the owners/operators can rest, relax, visit relatives and "Spring clean" for the coming year. The specific dates are a good sign that your favorite place will be back open.

I know I called Bridges Barbecue in Shelby, NC this morning for their hours and the answering machine said they were closed until December 2 for the holidays. Now that is a long holiday break! I am assuming they meant January 2.

The sign: The "Thank you ..." message makes me wonder a bit too.

Gregg- I see what you mean....that is a little odd for a place that is just closing temporarily. Let's hope they were just in the holiday spirit!

It could just mean that this place has never closed for any length of time before, and the owners want to thank those people who have made it such a place. It makes me wonder if they are planning to redo the inside of the place??

I sure hope they don't change the interior! Definitely one of the more colorful Roadfood spots.

Love that place -- they used to sell pint jars of their enchilada sauce...fantastic. Hope they re-open soon, I'll be over there in two weeks for Spring Barrel tasting.

I live 2 hours north of there. I haven't heard anything but I went looking for El Ranchito tortillas in the store 2 days ago and there were none to be had. btw wheregreggeats, we were in Seattle over spring vacation and went to the Four Seas for dim sum. It was fine, but I sure miss the shrimp toast at the old Hong Kong.
