Electric smoker suitable for small apartment? Fri, 05/12/06 6:35 AM (permalink)
I am wondering if anyone makes an electric smoker suitable for use in a small, New York City apartment. It is essential that the unit (1) run on standard household current and (2) contain smoke/oders sufficiently well that it will not disturb neighbors or, of course, "smell up" the interior of my apartment. Oh, and the cheaper, the better.

Thanks!

Any wood smoker will have to vent, thereby smelling up your apartment. Remember, like anything else, there are good smokers and there are cheap smokers, but there are no good, cheap smokers.

Do a google on Good Eats and smoker and you will come up with a couple of cheap ideas.

With enough plastic sheeting and duct tape, you should be able to contain the smoke.

This is not an electric smoker, but it's a good one for use indoors on a stovetop.

I love my Cameron stove top smoker. I use it for fresh caught albacore for tuna sandwiches. Cheese is easy in it too. Definitely not for long hours of smoking a roast. Reasonably priced and I know you will love it.

I've been really enjoying my Cameron smoker. I've done chicken breasts, pork chops, tuna steaks, brisket and ribs in it. I don't have any problems with the smoke------it stays well contained.

Correct me if I am wrong but I do not consider that a smoker since there is no wood used in the cooking process.

RibDog, the Cameron does use wood. They sell fine grated packs of different kinds of wood. And right, not for doing a roast or a big slab of ribs. As you heard, folks do like them for allot of uses. I have a small stand up electric smoker that I havn't used in years. It has to be outside. I think the Cameron or something like it is all you can use indoors. You might want to try some sarches on Ebay for indoor smookers or stovetop smookers and you can learn allot. I use Ebay to research lots of stuff.

                    PapaJoe8,

I was referring to the cooker that Marshrat talked about, not the Cameron. I used to have a Cameron myself quite a while back.
