Ellen, glad you had a nice birthday dinner! Although I do enjoy really good food, for celebrations it's usually the company that really makes it special. Happy Birthday!

Absolutely!  It was a nice combination of great company, and hit & miss food!
In honor of my mom, (RIP) , Charlie Brown's ! She always loved it there!
She got her queen sized prime rib coupon for her b-day, and felt like a queen...

        <<Yes, Charlie Brown's Steakhouse...
Ken, I know YOU'VE GOT to be familiar with this place, of course....
49 locations in NJ, NY and CT... >>

Yep, I sure am. I've been to a few of them . I seem to remember reading somewhere that more than many other chains, Charlie Browns gives thier Managers much more leeway in how they run things, and as a result there is a lot of variation in quality and service from place to place.

The one in Montclair (the CB website says Montclair but I think it's really Upper Montclair) is really good, as as a result I've been there a few times even though its about a 20 mile drive.

The one in Scotch Plains (which is less than 1 mile from me, and come to think of it is probably the closest restuarant to my house) is pretty awful IMHO. As a result we've only been once, when we first moved here 10 years ago, and swore "never again". Of course, that doesn't stop it from being crowded, but then again so is Olive Garden.

Glad that you had a good day for your BD even though the food wasn't all great. Sometimes it's more about friends and family rather than the restaurant. I've got one of those coming up tomorrow...

Agreed, that there seems to be a big variation in quality between locations....my sis does'nt like the Matawan location, for instance...

And it seems the management gives the STAFF leeway , as well, cause we got to send my nephews steak back for a replacement real easily....
(it was cooked too well done)
The waitress eagerly said "Would you like me to bring you another one?!?"...
We did'nt even have to go through that sometimes awkward experience where the manager had to come over, cause often that is the procedure..
