Flew down to JAX (Nov.1-3)for "Bluemaxx" Roadfood Daytona meat-up
Sun. Nov. 2nd (the "day after" our wonderful Brickyard meat-up)
DARK clouds, SOTRMY day in DAYTONA BEACH SHORES
Looks like my plans for laying out in the sun have been squandered.
I settled for putting my feet in the ocean, & taking swim in the pool
I think it's crazy they let cars drive on this narrow beach!
Daytona Beach Shores, view looking north from my Ocean Court Motel
I was surprised to see that a lifeguard appeared around 10 am
He was the only lifeguard I could see in either direction, and looks like he was in for an easy day.... as I only saw one person in the water boogie-boarding..... still, he's gotta watch that one life..
11 am, time to drive out for LUNCH... went to LA FIESTA, on the rec. of fellow Roadfooder buddy JOHN A.
I had mentioned I was thinking about Mexican food for today.
LA FIESTA, Port Orange.. (Daytona Beach area)
This place was just what the kind of joint I was looking for.
The CHIPS were nice and HOT and fresh, just how I like them!
Great dipping sauces, too
Wish we had places like this in my area.
Had the sampler APPETIZER platter to start...this is a lousy pic
Those things that look like chicken wings are actually good cheese poppers. Then there was smoked chicken taquitos, chicken nachos, and some real good GUACOMOLE.I love when places offer an app.sampler
CHEESE ENCHILADA (very tasty) and my BEEF TACO (just standard; nothing like those cheap fried tacos (with melted cheese), that I get in L.A. area!!)
Next up was BOOTH'S BOWERY for buffalo wings, also in Port Orange.
I grabbed a few bumper stickers from the Booth's Bowery take-out/convenience store (which was to the right of the restaurant)
Also these homemade (by "Peggy") cupcakes...they were too sweet for my tastes. Note the NJ made Boylan's soda! Cool!
I ordered the WINGS with HOT GARLIC sauce...well done, crispy..
Note the BOTTLES of HOT SAUCE I bought. Well, that would be the LAST I SAW of them, as they were determined a threat to national security and ended up getting CONFISCATED at the JAX airport the next day!!
(forgot I had those "liquids" in my suitcase)....I took my $13.00 loss on them. (as opposed to taking my suitcase back down to the US Airways ticket counter and paying another $25.00 to check the bag)
(Plus, I had a fairly tight connection in Charlotte, and felt like carrying on)...
Well, at LEAST I got to try that HOT GARLIC sauce on the wings I ordered... My 2nd time there; last time was in June.
Someone once said in another post that these were SMALL wings!
Not in MY opinion... (I prefer them smaller, anyway, though)
KUDOS go out to WENDY who works in the BOOTH'S BOWERY take-out/& convenience store, as her attitude and personality really SPARKLE! I noticed the way she treated the customers coming in and out of there while I was waiting for my wings. She made good small talk.
(as in "Did the rain stop for now?!?")
Next, I decided to squeeze in a visit to MARIA BONITA's, (in Daytona) the Mexican Restaurant I had originally been thinking of going to before JOHN A told me to try La Fiesta.
I'm too STUFFED for a sit down dinner, so I decided to take out some CHIPS and SALSA (to do a taste comparison) and a BEEF ENCHILADA
CHIPS and SALSA were great(just like La Fiesta), Beef Enchilada was just "okay", IMO, not extra special.
Next, I head into downtown DAYTONA for a STINKY DOG, cause Miami Don clued me into this place. He had just been there the day before.
I love the good SIGNAGE; it's on a side street, and often places miss out on extra business by not having a little directory sign
Note the art show booths in the background. As it turned out, I got lucky, as it turns out that Stinky's is NORMALLY CLOSED SUNDAYS, but DUE to this ART SHOW, they decided to open shop. (Plus, word must've got around that Ellen was coming to town! And she means business!)
My STINKY DOG with the excellent meat sauce on the side
The hot dog brand is from Michigan. It's all beef, but I found it too mild for my tastes..(too watery and boring, IMO)
The way my ears heard it, it is a "KENT'S" brand hot dog, but the way Miami Don heard it, it's a "HENT'S" brand.
Maybe a Michigan Roadfooder, or JOHN FOX, our resident hot dog guru, can sort this one out.
STINKY DOGS, Daytona Beach
Please come back for my DAY 3, GRAND FINALE..
where you will read about a BURGER find that RIVALS the BRICKYARD!!!!
