Every State in US Ranked by it's Food/Drink...Interesting List!

Like most lists...this one is also very debatable.  I agree with the top three in that order.  However, things certainly get tricky after that!  I've never been to either state so can't say for sure but think that #6 and #7 are ranked way too high.  Also can't understand  how and/or why PA and NJ are ranked in the 20's.  I would definitely put them both in the top 10-12 range...

How would you guys rank 'em...??

I stopped once I saw Arkansas was #37 and New Mexico (which would get my vote as #1) was only #33.

This is possibly the most ridiculous food list yet.   They ranked the list by food/drink "available" in each state.  Well, it's no big surprise that 3 MOST POPULATED states ..., CA, TX, and NY had a bigger edge, and  got the highest rankings.   Roadfood gems like NM and CT never had a chance with this survey.

A more relevant survey would rank it on a per capita basis.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a higher "density" of great Roadfood places in CT, and to some degree, RI.

Yeah, I know that the rules of the list are that you are stuck in that one state.

    Goofy rules.  Goofy list.

My impression was that this list was used as more of a vehicle for the author to launch an attempt at being snarky, than actually rank states by the food available in them.

Describing San Jose as the ramen capital is almost as funny as "Pizza was invented in Gary Indiana" and even funnier than "the best Sushi is in NYC"
Everyone knows LA is the ramen capital

Glenn1234 said it for me - as a CT dweller, there aren't enough days in the year to eat all the amazing Roadfood in the state. I call BS

Hey, this is like ranking your grandkids!!! If Roadfood shows us anything, we are blessed to have 50 states with great food. But, I have to be partial to West Virginia & Indiana.

The bottom 14 are easy to see.

IMO, CA wins ONLY due to its size.  Yes, they have excellent fresh fruits & vegetables, but what else do they have better than elsewhere?

TX - really? beyond some excellent BBQ.....

OR - really?  seems to be just beer & donuts.

CT should be in the top five.  PA, NJ and RI perhaps in the top 10.

The list seems to be weighted primarily by the beers.

Everything is more delicious in California. The east coast is old and decrepit. I'm going to revive my idea of splitting the country in two down the Mississippi.

BTW-Oregon: lamb, crab, shrimp, salmon, trout, pears, peaches, potatoes, truffles, hazelnuts, cherries,
and on and on...donuts and beer. Stupid.

It appears I hit a nerve.  My intent was not to belittle OR, but rather question the criteria for best state to eat and drink forever.  I'm not sure why food / alcohol source is even considered with the exception of easy access to fresh, perishable seafood, fruits & vegetables.  KS raises excellent beef, but try to get a great steak there.  CA has great wineries, but their wines are available most anywhere.  TN produces excellent whiskey, but again, it's available most anywhere.

As for OR, you do mention availability of many items, but is there anything iconic from OR? When one thinks of crab, it's likely MD, shrimp - gulf coast, peaches - CA or SC, potatoes - ID, trout - CO, cherries - WA, etc.  The article reports wineries, food trucks and donuts for OR - not much for those of us unfamiliar with OR to judge it by.

IMO, the ratings should be more on iconic items, number of culinary schools grads/population (graduates tend to stay local), availability of perishable items, and number of non-chain (interesting) restaurants.

CA obviously has SF for an amazing number of restaurants as well as an enormous state-wide source of fresh fruits & vegetables. NY (primarily NYC) has an amazing number of restaurants coupled with an amazing transportation system to obtain the best and freshest.  etc.

Sorry, but I don't see OR, TN, KY and not even TX as being in the top ten.
