Extreme Makeover Home Edition was in town... Sat, 02/3/07 5:16 PM (permalink)
They have been in town the last week, and yes it's true:
They do put a house up in a week.
A local family here got the keys to a new home this past Thursday..
Here is the link to see the process.
The only thing they keep a surprise until airtime is the inside.

March 25th is the air date.

Yes, they do. I have the T-shirt from when I worked on the one in Long Beach to prove it. I also know that they had plumbing floods, walls that were not straight and other failures. Good work takes time!

Still, I think that the work they are doing to help people in need is fantastic....

Do you ever wonder how the recipients are going to pay the taxes, utilities and general up keep on the house they get?

The local contractors have set up a fund for them, as it seems most of them do.
The money is only used for taxes, insurance, bills, etc, and is distributed by the bank it seems.
Hootie and the Blowfish did a benefit concert and raised 20K that night for them.
So far, there was over 100K in their account for future use. It also stipulated that anything left over was to be used for the kids college funds.
Whether or not they can actually get theirs hands on it, I have no clue. I am sure there is some kind of trustee .. I just dont know.
            But yes.
I always did wonder that when I have watched these shows in the past.

I've been getting press releases on this episode for over a week now, even though my SC paper is far away from Myrtle Beach. If they did come here, I'd definitely cover it. That would be a fun story.
