Ez-Build Hot Dog Cart Parts

Hey guys,

Long time reader, newly registered.

After reading for a long time, I've decided I'm thinking about starting a hot dog cart side business!

I've been looking around, and see a lot of the Ez-Build carts, based off of Steve Schaible's system.

I would love to get a better idea of the exact investment before I start, is there anyone out there that has built one and has their costs?

Better yet, is there anyone who could send me a materials list/part of the plans? I realize this may be asking for too much, but it's worth a try!

I would hate to spend the $150 for the plans and then realize I won't be able to build one!

Thank you in advance,
Jake

Jake....tough if almost impossible question to answer.  There is a thread that I started about my finished cart....I used Steve's plans.  If you can turn a wrench then you can build this.  The list of materials is too long and might even violate something...I spent over 1k but less than 2...which is probably 1/3 to 1/2 of a new cart.

    Djdawg,

    Thank you for your imput.

I was skeptical about the $800 price point he puts on it to build everything new from scratch, but it doesn't sound like you were too far off.

I am building something of a hybrid between Steves plans and Bens carts. The firebox is of Bens Carts design... and I will be finishing it in metal like Steve does. I dont know what Ive spent so far but it hasnt been bad... spreading out the expendatures helps. Im guessing I am into it a grand... but I already had the correct trailer. All I have left to buy is cosmedic diamond plate.... which I hope I can find locally cheaper then buying online.

I think the regular price on the trailer from Harbor Freight is $189 but they have 20% off in store coupons a lot.

    Hey guys,

Thank you for all the great info!

I ordered Steve's plans, and I got a little excited and went ahead and got a trailer kit from HF. I'll post pics of the progress soon!

Hey quad104, glad you asked this question. I'm about to start on a cart also. By time you add a couple of options and freight you're in the $3,000+ range. I think I can build something useable for a lot less. I will be watching to see how it goes as you'll be a few weeks ahead of me.

    Just an update guys:

cart is under construction! I've been taking pictures throughout the build to hopefully show what's going on. I'm talking to the health departments and getting everything squared away, looking like my first outing should be October 5-7!

Hoping to be finished this weekend (if all the parts come in), so I'll post pics then!
