Facebook is eating into more and more of my time. It can be monster and then it laps over into Twitter and LinkedIn.

    I know what you mean

I am part of a group called "People who poke David Moses"  he is a good friend from HS.

So far there is 26+ members, and he gets poked or super poked over 200 times a day.  :-)

I just conected to a friend who moved away when we were in 8th grade, found out he is now only 40 minutes away.

    FB is amazing, but addictive.

        FB is amazing, but addictive.

Definitely addictive, just like this Roadfood site is...
Right now I have a nice combination of my fellow casino poker employees, as well as my Roadfood.com buddies on there.
And hopefully, in the future, I can also reconnect with former high school friends, etc , etc...

I've found that it has strengthened a few of my friendships with people from work.  I got to learn a little more about their lifestyles and backgrounds...
sometimes all this FACEBOOK stuff gets too much , though!
As there is no replacement for LIVE interaction!
I actually said to one guy at work "Why don't we get away from our computer screens and meet up for a movie one night this week?"
had an amazing time... and being it had been an espescially cold week weather wise, it felt good to be "out and about" after work...

Since my lifelong friends have joined facebook, many of whom live out of state...actually, I'm the one who moved out of state, I've been spending more time on facebook than here.

well, the new job doesn't afford me as much time on the 'net, either. So, I can only check roadfood once or twice per day, unlike having the ability to "live" on the site.

So, it's a bit of both. I only check facebook once or twice per day as well.

Facebook seems to always load and run slow.. It drives me crazy, so I rarely get on there, unless I get a message that someone confirmed me as a friend or get a drink, or hugged, or poked, or, or, or.........You catch my drift.......I wish more people would buy some of my green earth or do the egg thing, or give me a fish...........

Runs OK for me. There are many reasons why it can be slow and it can vary with people with the service provider they use and the servers they connect through.

Anyway, MiamiDon linked this on his Wall and that's where I found it. It might be fitting for Roadfooders. Why Facebook is for Old Fogies

Facebook seems to always load and run slow..

                    It depends , for me...
it's quite fast when I do Facebook at home, but when I do it from one of our casino break room computers, it's usually slow and annoying....(due to those computers getting used and abused)

I enjoy Facebook for the "live interaction"....  I rarely poke back, or help people save the Rainforest, or "water their plants", and all that other stuff...
once in awhile I'll "accept a drink" from someone...
but I'm really there for the conversation..... all the little quips and one liners, etc..

I like it as an extra outlet to see what's going on with a whole bunch of people at once...
my fellow poker employees , and my Roadfood buds...
I got to learn even more about their backgrounds, their music videos they post, their pics they put up...
I started hanging out with a fellow poker dealer, and we even look at Facebook together (and Roadfood, etc)
it's neat, like we're high school kids or something...

I joined Facebook, have kept it limited to people I went to school with. It is nice to see pictures of there families as it seems we have for the most part moved away from where we grew up. I can live with out the "pokes" and that type of thing, but I admit I enjoy catching up with my classmates more often than every 5-10years.

                            hi, you talking to ME?
Cause I did do a Catskills Trip Report about a year and a half ago...
try going to the search forum in Trip Reports, or google stuff like "Kutshers Hotel, roadfood, ellen4641" maybe it will come up....

                            I'll also try for you...

I wish there was some way I could create a personalized trip report album..
as I do so many of them, but yet, it's tough to find them again...

I understand the problem. The solution I have is when I start a trip report I bookmark the topic in a folder called My Roadfood so I can go back to the topics without having to search for them. If I want to refer to a topic in a message I just open another browser window, select the topic and then copy and paste the URL.

I don’t belong to Facebook or anything like it but recent news of Facebook’s change in the Terms of Service (TOS) caused global outrage. Facebook seems to have relented and promised to write a new revision to the TOS.

For your information these are a couple of links to the stories:

Facebook's New Terms Of Service: "We Can Do Anything We Want With Your Content. Forever."

By Chris Walters, 6:14 PM on Sun Feb 15 2009, 515,141 views

                                To quote the article:

“Facebook's terms of service (TOS) used to say that when you closed an account on their network, any rights they claimed to the original content you uploaded would expire. Not anymore.
Now, anything you upload to Facebook can be used by Facebook in any way they deem fit, forever, no matter what you do later.* Want to close your account? Good for you, but Facebook still has the right to do whatever it wants with your old content. They can even sublicense it if they want.”

                                Facebook countered with this:

Facebook Clarifies Terms Of Service: "We Do Not Own Your Stuff Forever"

By Chris Walters, 6:52 PM on Mon Feb 16 2009, 37,107 views

                                Interesting.

Not a big deal to me. Only a fool would believe they actually can control their content online. Have you read the fine print of most online entities like the forums you contribute to?

Once content is out there it multiplies like rabbits. I went on Facebook and found a "Pork Tenderloin Appreciation Society" group run by Los Angelites that probably had never seen a BPT in their lives. Inspecting the uploaded photos to that group, which you are supposed to agree you own the photo when you upload, I found many of them were mine and the uploaders implied they were their photos. I suspect they lifted them second and third hand and didn't have a clue. There was no mention of the true source. So rather than complain, fight fire with fire. I created a better group, Pursuing Pork Tenderloin Sandwiches with better content.

thanks davydd, that is a great idea...!
perhaps I can even go back 3 years or so to my earliest Trip Reports, and bookmark it that way, and catch up on my organizing...
Cause one never knows if there will be a software glitch sometime that can cause some of those unsaved Trip Reports to go "bye bye"...

I have my own facebook and also one for my mother's restaurant.  The one for my mother's restaurant is to help get some business.  It is amazing the power of the internet and sites like that.  If anyone cares to add my mom's restaurant just search on facebook by her email address.   nannyskitchen22@gmail.com

Yeah Ellen I am, while trying not to over do it.  It's tough in these times for small places like hers.  Plus, she and my father are not exactly computer savvy.  I really should have done this much earlier.  But for people who do own business or want to connect with old friends facebook really is a great tool once you get the hang of it.  It is really good to talk to people you don't get to see too often.

My daughter got me hooked on facebook, but I am having fun connecting with peoople that I have not seen in years.  We are planning our 40th high school reunion and facefook is a good way to find some of our classmates

I have, in the last 3 days, been re-aquainted with 3 more people that I went to Elementary, Jr High and High School with.......
I think someone is planning our 40th HS reunion also... We are at 37 now.....I havent seen these people in over 3 times the amount of years that I went to school with them!!!..Amazing, isnt it?......
I NOW am totally depressed after reading what I just wrote above-----I  cannot believe my age anymore.
Today I feel old for some reason...
Thank Goodness I dont look my age!

(Edited a minute later--In the time it took for me to write the above, I just connected with yet one more classmate off Facebook)...

I had joined a few years ago, but it seemed boring, so i forgot about it. I didn't have my real name on there at the time, anyway. Then not long ago, one day a slew of people from here friend-requested me - Ellen, Joe Rogo, Benzee...you get the drift! I said, "Alright. I'll do it". Well, there's been no looking back since then. I reconnected with my best girlfriend from junior high and high school, who I haven't seen in almost 20 years. That in itself is just SUCH a trip, and we talk all the time now. She only lives in Philly, so it wouldn't be far to drive at all. Then I went onto the group that talked about my elementary school, and I've reconnected with people I went through first, second, third grades with! They look great!!! Plus one of them I hung out with in the 70s, but still! That was a long time ago, you know? We had mutual friends in a band. My daughter's on it, her friends are on it, my boyfriend's on it, I have relatives on it, I talk to people from here on it, I've joined really good groups that really feature my cultural interests...I'm also able to incorporate stuff from my flickr page and basically illustrate my feelings and activities. I put videos on too - mine and youtube ones that I like. Food pictures I've taken, too.

I'm really glad, and I thank you guys who suggested it. I'm really happy with it.

If you want to friend-request me or have me find you on there, PM me here because my real name is on facebook and for some reason I don't care (my profile's private unless you're on my friends list or whatever they call it), but here I do care.

If you come to my Wall you get a dose of Minnesota culture. So far I've put up photo albums of the St. Paul Winter Carnival ice sculptures, The Art Shanties (ice fish houses) on Medicine Lake, and today the University of Minnesota Arboretum's orchids exhibit. You can also see a picture of this big eared kid who played for Indianapolis Public School 49's first football team in 1956. But once it scrolls off my Wall it will be locked away in my high school class' private group. We have 27 members out of a class of about 120 signed on so far.

And the Facebook craze made the cover story of Fortune magazine! I savored reading the article "How Facebook is taking over our lives" !

I should know, as I've been on Facebook  for about 3 hours or so tonight!

I love FB.  I started as a 'spy' on my child.  But, like everyone else, I have reunited with a lot of old friends.  Also, I chat with the kids at school who have 'friended' me.  They ask, I don't.  Last night we watched the webcast of the State boys basketball game.  My daughter and I had FB open in the back.  We were doing a play by play for those kids who couldn't get the webcast.  And yes, our school won!!!!!!

A side benefit, I am now friends with some RFs.  That is a nice spin to an already great site.

We would sit under the old oak tree in the back yard in a hammock, laugh and talk the afternoons away.  Or we would play in my room (my mom was going to wall paper my room , but until then we could color on the walls.

Funny, I don't get it. I have a page, but I never think about it. I'm friends with folks, some from here... but I dunno. I just don't understand. Maybe I'm too private? Or I like some distance? Or, is it more than I want to know about others?

I have conceptual issues. I don't understand how it fits into my communication map. But I never got IMing, or texting either. And Twitter; god forbid.
