Fall Festivals in Shenandoah Valley, Va. Wed, 09/6/06 5:10 AM (permalink)
Hello All,
(I'm not sure if this should be here or on in the Where Should I Eat section, so moderators feel free to move it.)
Autumn is coming and in my neck of the woods many towns and village
throw fall festival that offer good foods, music, craft vendors and
artisans, children's activities, and other forms of entertainment.
This is a partial list and if everyone would like, I can add as I find
more happenings. If not, this will be the only list I'll give.
Sept. 9- Broadway Hometown Partnership's Autumn Days Craft Show- 65 vendors, crafters and artisans. Square dancers and a horseshoe tournament. 9 a.m. -4 p.m. More info, call 540-896-4992
Sept.22 and 23- Timberville Hertitage Day- on the 22nd at 6:30 p.m.
there will be a parade. On the 23rd festivities begin at 9 a.m..
It offers helicopter rides, horse-drawn wagon rides, music, children's
activities, and apple butter boil and plenty of good foods. More info call 540-896-7058
Sept.22-24- Hardy County (W. Va.) Heritage Weekend- Activities happening at Lost River and also in Mathias. Crafts, music, and food,
(folks, am tired of typing the same descriptions ) more info at
www.heritageweekend.com
Oct. 21- Broadway-Timberville Chamber of Commerce 42nd Annual Fall Festival Arts, Crafts and Collector Car Show- crafts, food, petting zoo, old car show...just call 540-896-7413 for info
Oct. 28-29- New Market Heritage Days Fall Festival- same stuff offered

Dayton has Dayton Days, but haven't the dates or info yet.
If you live in D.C. Area, Pa., Maryland, you're roughly 3 or 4 hours from most of these places.
Just offering a few choices for a place to go on a free weekend.
Take Care,
Fieldthistle

I love the VA fall festivals. It's such a nice tradition.
I especially enjoyed going with some friends and their children to Cox Farms in Centerville VA.
They have large slides that is fun for adults and kids. A nice hay ride and lots of other activities and entertainment. It's truly fun for kids and adults alike.

Also, The Corn Maze in The Plains, VA is the only organic corn maze I know of in the region. In other words, the maze is made in an actual corn field.

          Hello All,
Dayton Autumn Day- Oct.7th. This is a a great fall festival, music, ethnic foods of all types,
and craftspeople selling goods. They have shuttle buses as downtown Dayton is small. I don't
understand why they don't have a website. I've been to this in the past, and it has been
good. Dayton, Virginia, right on Rt. 42.
          Take Care,
          Fieldthistle

The Page County Heritage Festival is next weekend, Octber 7 & 8, at the Fairgrounds in Luray. I think it's one of the better events of it's kind. Nothing really special about the food served at the various stands, but the canned goods - pickles, chow-chow, jams .... , and the baked goods can be outstanding!

Oct 7 & 8th the Apple Butter Festival Berkley Springs, WVa.

Right on U.S. 522, main street of Berkley Springs. Nice festival, lots of arts and crafts, great fresh made apple juice and butter being made in a huge cauldron right on a side street of 522.
