Has anyone ever heard of a chain called Famous Uncle Al's? It's a hot dog chain and I just saw something about one opening in Lancaster, Ohio, which is about 25 or so miles south of me.

Oh that is interesting, John. Where was it located? We loved the Daytona Chili Station and their great hot dogs. Also, a great hot dog place out of Syracuse opened in South Daytona quite a few years ago and did not last long at all. I guess people in Daytona just do not go for hot dogs.

Famous Uncle Al's was located in the Wynn Dixie center of the 2200 block in Daytona Beach Shores. The brothers that owned Daytona Chili Station opened Longdoggers on Nova Road in South Daytona, do not know if they still own it. It's a small chain out of Melbourne. I've been there for lunch, decent dog & fries, they're usually pretty busy at lunchtime. http://www.longdoggers.com/locations.html I remember a great hot dog place in what is now Pagano's in SD next to Wendy's. It too was a chain and has been discussed here on RF in the past. That's been over 20 years ago and naturally I do not remember it's name. There is a place called Stinky Dogs on Bay street that MiamiDon posted about in one of the Bluemaxx threads. I agree with him that it's very good. Right around the corner on Beach street is another place called Hound Dogs, I do not give them six months.

Never tried Famous Uncle Al's but we go to Hound Dogs on Beach Street on a regular basis, homemade food, great atmosphere and really friendly owners, and i believe they have been open a year or more!

Beachcomberdb Never tried Famous Uncle Al's but we go to Hound Dogs on Beach Street on a regular basis, homemade food, great atmosphere and really friendly owners, and i believe they have been open a year or more! I tried it once soon after opening and was very disappointed, especially with the beans. They tasted exactly like Campbell's pork & beans straight out of the can. I much prefer Stinky Dogs right around the corner. Here's a review by MiamiDon from a previous RF post. MiamiDon On November 1st I drove up to Daytona Beach for BlueMaxx's weekend of racing and hamburger social (or, as Ellen4641 would say, "Meat-Up"). Before I went to the Daytona International Speedway, I stopped at theStinky Dog Diner. Here is the logo, if you were wondering about the name: It is housed in a narrow little building. Stinky Dog Diner 12-foot wide front: The property, though, is 100 feet deep, and there is an indoor dining area and a patio in the rear. I elected to enjoy the fine Daytona Beach day outside. Outdoor Patio Seating: I chose the namesake Stinky Dog which comes with the house secret recipe meaty chili sauce, and had them add mustard and chopped onions. I asked about the Stinkade, and the owner rattled off a list of juices which included kiwi fruit. It sounded good, so I got that and a side of potato salad. They do not serve fried food here. Stinky Dog, Potato Salad and Stinkade: I spoke with the owner, Janet, who is from Buffalo. Stinky Dog Proprietor Janet, with Bob? the Manager: She told me that the secret meat sauce recipe was obtained from an old lady in northern Pennsylvania, who has since passed away. The frankfurter itself is a skinless, all-beef "Hent's" from Michigan. It was mildly flavored, and reminded me of the Hoffy frankfurter served at Pink's in Hollywood, although, of course without a casing. The secret sauce was meaty and tasty, with and interesting mild spiciness. I also enjoyed the Stinkade. I found that the fresh-tasting potato salad was not salted enough for my taste, but there were salt shakers on the tables to easily remedy that. Close-up of the Stinky Dog:
