2014....

With a light dusting of powdered sugar on the ground.....paczki day has begun! Round 1 - cherry cheese and poppyseed....only once a year! Beads on, fork up!

Those do not look to bad. If you like that sort of thing, of course.

Sometimes you need 6 or 7 to develop a liking...I'm working on that right now!

Holy cow--CTD!!! Those look ridiculously awesome!   I'm so envious.  I don't see anyone making paczki around here, so one of these days (but not today) I'm going to try one of the recipes I've saved.  Dang, those look fantastic...

I also had a few paczki this morning, but they sure didn't look like that!  Beautiful!

Echoing buffetbuster's thoughts, we picked up a few paczkis from Bennison's Bakery in Evanston last week.  They were damn good but still didn't have the visual appeal of those.  Of course, you probably didn't get any Maple Bacon Long Johns, did you...

Nearing the end of long, hard day of eating paczki's, I'm down for the cherry cheese, poppyseed, raspberry, blueberry cheese, apricot, chocolate chip cheese (like a cannoli), lemon and strawberry.  Still missed a 8 other flavors!

My local bakery stopped accepting orders last Thursday as they reached sell out capacity of 10,000!  As I entered the bakery this morning, and there was a line out the door at 5:40am and 12 degrees, all other products were removed and the place was wall to wall paczki's!  The aroma...wow!

In my area we have no paczki.  We have no fastnachts.  We must settle for Dunkin' Donuts.

I thought there was only one place, far away from me, in the Denver area. Luckily, one of my rugby friends saw my Facebook post and brought me two boxes of paczki to practice.

Hey Midnights -
What position do you play?  I was a prop for 4 years and wing forward for 2...but it's quite a few years ago!

I always thought Paczki was the Polish word for "bad donut." I've been disappointed every time I've tried them. I may need to frequent better Polish bakeries.

I was a wing and fullback for many years.  Participated in ONE scrum.  That was enough for me.

These are like the ones they sold in our local Giant Food store, but the box was red with white letters.  Had raspberry filling and and a crytal sugar sprinkling on the light brown exterior.  Just ehh.

Our Giant Eagle has been featuring them for the past week, but they look like jelly donuts and I'm not a jelly donut fan. Actually, the only donuts I like are plain ones, and sometimes plain with a little cinnamon on them.

In the greater Cincinnati area there is only place for these gems - Bonomini Bakery at 1677 Blue Rock Street - tel 513 541 7501 - no one else comes close.

I play mostly hooker, but I've spent time everywhere on the field. I currently play for the Denver Harlequins.

This same time of year they have those little Jewish pastries that look like a 3 corner hat. I have not seen them in a few years, but I did see a story about them in the paper. The holiday ( I don't remember the spelling) was mentioned on the Jordan Levy show on local WTAG a few days ago, but he didn't mention if the pastries were being sold anywhere.

Everyone is selling (not very good looking) hot cross buns ahead of Easter, and Irish soda bread for St Patrick Day.

Seasonal food can be good, but if it is made way ahead of time and shipped in, I can do without it.

Thanks, since I'm the one who manages the team's website and the match secretary who arranges our schedule.

The kids and I have been working our way through the available stock at our local Meijer for the last couple of weeks. Raspberry, Bavarian Creme, Cheese and Apple, so far. Hoping to get a Lemon one of these days. They have a bunch of Prune, but they don't seem to be selling and the kids aren't thrilled with it. They're mostly like an eggy jelly donit, but they're OK. They'd be much better if they were fresh from a good bakery, but I don't know that any of our local bakeries are doing them. If they are then they're keeping them a secret.

Believe it on not, we can get Paczki out here in the Desert!!
Basha's, a local supermarket in AZ has the real deal, complete with the white boxes and the red lettered Paczki name on the box!!

At 5:30am, this is a look at the crowd!  10,000 pre-orders sold out 7 days before, 18 staff that I counted plus perhaps a dozen in the back room and several kids on the street assisting with large orders, a line around the block...

....and I loved it!  An annual tradition!
