Father and Son - Closing Sat. June 24 th

Hello all ,

I got word from John Fox that this coming Sat will be the last day for Father and Son restaurant . They lost the lease and will be closing until they can find another location .

I have tentative plans to visit on Thurs afternoon about 230pm to say my goodbyes . I may have to visit another stop or two on the way home also .

John will be joining me if he does not have to work late .
For those of you that remember we visited this fine establishment on last years Hot Dog Tour . It will be hard to replace with another .

Anyone interested in joining , feel free to shout out an email .

Hello all ,
I visited Fahter and Son today and said my goodbyes. The last day is Saturday .
Very somber mood for the friendly workers , as well should be expected.
Ordered two chili dogs and a quart of chili to go . No line , one man eating at counter and some kids sitting in back at my 245 pm arrival .
Also had my camera , took some photos I will try to get posted also .
We will need a new place fro the Hot Dog Tour to replace Father and Son and I tried Js Beef on way back home . Two Chicago style dogs were great , but I goofed and should've tried the chili dogs also , will next time . Owner J was friendly , a stickler for having your hands on the counter , he really should not have it so high where the counter person is , but hey its not my business. I imagine he must spend all day telling people to take their hands off the counter . Oh well I enjoyed both places . Sad to see F ands S go .

I'm glad you were able to make the pilgrimage to Father and Son. Hopefully, the proprietor of that fine frankfurter emporium will find a new and even better space before long...at least before our Fall Tour. Don't want to lose a resource like that. It's truly unique.

In addition to a dog "run through the garden," I had the chili dog with cheese at J's Beef. It was quite nutritious. I like Chicago hot dogs on occasion, and they're remarkably authentic at J's. Adding to the full hot dog experience, the owner knows his stuff. As Arnold says, "I'll be back."

P.S.--approximately 28 hours after initially writing this post, I, too, visited Father & Son's to bid adieu. I was informed that Father and Son will still make their chili, which will be available for sale at the deli around the block on Wood Avenue. I was also told they're still working on getting a new place nearby. So, arrivederci, but not yet goodbye, Father and Son.

I, too, was there yesterday, about a half hour before closing. Had a final chili dog and gave my address. They will send me a postcard when they find a new location.

SPOKE TO FATHER AND SON OWNER TODAY AND THEY WILL BE REOPENING SOON
(3-4) WEEKS.
THEY ARE WAITING ON SOME NEW EQUIPMENT.
NEW LOCATION IS DOWN THE STREET AT 523 BLANKE ST. ABOVE CHASE MANHETTEN BANK.
CAN'T WAIT.

I'm not showing a Chase Manhattan Bank on West Blancke Street, Linden, N.J. Per MapQuest, 523 W. Blancke is 1/3rd of a mile west of the current location.

Upstairs, you say? In such case, it would be, to the best of my knowledge, the only 2nd floor Hot Dog Restaurant in New Jersey. Please elucidate. Thanks,

Benzee,not all of us are Windy City natives. I had to do a Google search to find out that the Father and Son Restaurant is located in Chicago and not to be confused with the Father and Son Cafe in Warwick, RI.

If your going to name drop restaurants, please include some sort of city/state identification for the benefit of uninformed outsiders. The only hint is the mention of "Chicago-style" hotdogs.

This sounds like just the proper place to send a couple of folks I know who are going to Jersey to visit and are up for at least a short hot dog tour.

Just to complicate things a bit further. Indeed, Father & Son is currently working to relocate. However, Chicago would be quite a haul, especially for loyal customers wishing to follow them to their new digs.

Nope, Father & Son is located in Linden, N.J., about 35 miles West of New York City, and, subsequently, nowhere near the Windy City.

Well first of all I'm not from the Windy City , just visited a few times .
Second Father and Son Restaurant is in Linden , NJ , not Chicago , Rhode Island or wherever .
Third , that was my goof for not putting in at least the city or state .
Fourth , that is great news if they are going to reopen , but the second floor ??
Fifth , Can anyone like perhaps John Fox confirm this story .
Sisth , Hey Red , try not to use CAPS ALL THE TIME , looks like you are screaming at us , although I could understand your excitement
