Westvleteren Yellow Cap. Its good to have a friend who visits Belgium several times a year.

I also love most of the PacNW micro-brews, and I love even more the fact that just about every single bar/restaurant around here has at least a couple of them on tap. No need to ever drink swill around here.

I'm not much of a beer/ale drinker, but I do enjoy Sam Adams Boston Ale with certain foods.

The absolute best beer I ever had in my life was a Schlitz. My wife and I had paddled all day to get back from a two week canoe-camping trip in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area of northern Minnesota and Quetico Provincial Park in Ontario and the temperature was in the 80s. When we hit the beach at our takeout point we immediately went into the store where we asked for the coldest thing they had to drink. The guy behind the bar pulled out two ice-covered bottles of Schlitz. We both emptied our bottles in what seemed like single gulps and asked for more. God, that was wonderful -- no, magnificent, beer.

This is the second time I have seen this beer recommended on a non-beer website and I can find not mention of it on Beer Advocate, Rate Beer or the importers website.

Are you sure this is the name of the beer?

brentk,

Samuel Smith is frequently talked about as one of the very best beers...I've never tasted better.
Here is some info on the British Company

If anyone wants a great selection of beer while in Milwaukee, I recommend Romans Pub not ten minutes from our airport, Mitchell International. Mike Romans is a character, serving no beer past its prime. He's been open for over 30 years now. He'll gladly send someone down the street if they try to order a Miller Lite or a Bud; in other words he's a beer curmudgeon. He puts out a monthly draft beer list with its rotating selections that you can check out here. http://www.romanspub.com/beersel.htm

Schlitz is back! And just for Michael Hoffman I bought a six pack to try. It is the same brew of the 60s as I can remember it. It is definitely not the watered down BudMillerCoors brews of today.

My one disappointment with the Schlitz in the bottle is they used screw off caps. That is not retro at all. Here is an interesting article on the retro Schlitz. You'll notice Schlitz in the can is not the retro brew.

Davydd, this article was very interesting. I'm going looking for "the Gusto" here in Jersey...Interesting, as a baby boomer,to be catered to. I hope business picks up and this starts a trend to bring back beloved products!!!
