Had a steak, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel at a bagel shop in NJ, pretty good breakfast. I still like a buttered bagel best.

I used to get lunch quite often at a nice bagel shop on 7th ave in NY that served a nice pastrami. My favorite was on an everything bagel with mustard and a nice half sour on the side. Another favorite was hot roast beef and cheddar...only I couldn't ask for that at the kosher place.

They may have been a big thing, but I never heard of such a thing. Having access to real bagels I never went to one of those chain places.
By the way, are you by any chance related to North Face?

Its tough to find bagels around here let alone in a sandwich form. We used to have an Einstien's that did serve them but they never sounding very interesting to try, bagels with a cream cheese is a breakfast item to me. The Einstien's is now long gone.

There's nothing like a good sandwich. And that sounds NOTHING like a good sandwich!

What kind of bread do you make a bagel sandwich on. Speaking of bagels; The first time Bill Monroe (Bluegrass) ate one he remarked that it was the toughest donut he had ever eaten, and that it was not very sweet either.

Poppy seed bagel from either Gryfe's (fluffy and weightless) or Open Window Bakery (dense and chewy).
Butter, plain cream chees, slice of spanish onion and lox. Used to have that every Sunday for brunch when I was growing up.

What's the difference between a "real bagel" and a "chain bagel"?

When I was pregnant with my third child at least two or three mornings a week I enjoyed scallion cream cheese on an everything bagel. Now, when I want to treat myself, it's Taylor Ham and cheese on any kind of bagel!

A real bagel is boiled before being baked. IMHO the best real bagels are in the NYC area and vicinity. Some say it's "the water". I'm not sure, I just know that they taste better.

Somehow, the idea of a pork product on a bagel seems, well, out of place.

I did have one bagel sandwich in my lifetime. When I was in high school, there was a chain store named Bagel Nosh on Chestnut Street in Philly that had all types of bagels and sandwiches. In those days, it was a real gentile novelty.

My friend talked me into having a ham and swiss on a bagel and I remember being surprised at how weird it was compared to the bagels we'd have at one of my Jewish neighbor's house - just cut in half and spread with cream cheese.

Love bagel sandwiches. Almosts every place in CNY offered up bagel sandwiches as a way to sell more after the breakfast crowd was gone. I love hummous, havarti, and roasted red peppers on a bagel! Or a good turkey and swiss with horseradish mustard. My favorite though is honey walnut raisin cream cheese on an everything bagel. The mixture of the savory and sweet flavors is something I can't get enough of.
