Just a thought from reading the various comments here. Though ice water and unsweetened iced tea are my two drinks of choice for cooling off on hot humid days, the two drinks which for me cannot ever be cold enough are buttermilk and beer. I agree a glass of cold buttermilk is good to drink in hot weather, but even better for me is a long tall glass of as-cold-as-possible buttermilk with corn bread crumbled into it for a light, cooling supper on some hot summer night. I know lots of people say no buttermilk, its got to be sweet milk for crumbling bread into, but I'm just the opposite. For me its got to be buttermilk for this purpose. And Cosmos, if you have cold water that is also good water coming from a dug well (which I don't know if such exist any longer or if such are any longer legal), or even if you have such water coming from a drilled well (and preferably hand pumped by a pitcher pump), then you indeed have the world's best drink.

WILLY-THAT SOUTHSIDE SOUNDS GREAT. A ROOTBEER FLOAT OR BOSTON COOLER ALSO HITS THE SPOT. ALSO, BEFORE WORK,(I WORK 7P-7A), I ENJOY A FLAVORED ICE COFFEE. REFRESHING WITH A CAFFIENE KICK.

i have this little thing i make which is like a chocolate banana smoothie.
just take tons of ice and crush it in a blender. then add some milk and hershey's chocolate to it. afterwards put in some banana slices or strawberries if you want (i haven't tried that yet). you may want to stir it after blending it or it beecomes one big ol' clump of ice. IT IS THE BEST. but if i don't feel like making one i grab an ice-cold goya gingerbeer which is a lot like gingerale only it has a much harder bite to it.

I hope I get this posting made, for its somehow twice now disappeared from my computer screen when attempting to preview and submit it. Anyway, was going to say that though as previously posted, I think nothing can beat cold ice water for a much needed cooling off drink, and ice water and unsweetened iced tea are my favorite routine summer drinks, something we did/had this afternoon for the first time this summer reminded me of a delicious, delightful summer cooler.
We first experineced this concoction years ago as a non-alcoholic appetizer in a restaurant. It consisted of a small scoop of orange sherbet (unstirred) in a small glass of cranberry juice. We enjoyed it so that we got to experimenting with it and discovered that we preferred it as a larger scoop of sherbet in a larger glass of juice and stirred with a large tablespoon (no need to break out the blender for this) until it became a slush. So cooling and delicious! We also experimented with other sherbet/juice combinations and discovered that we liked as well or even better than the orange sherbet/cranberry juice, the combinations of pineapple sherbet/cranberry juice and pineapple, lemon, or raspberry sherbets in orange juice. All are so cooling and refreshing. Stir up some and enjoy. Liketoeat

Forgot to mention that any of these sherbet/juice slushes are good not only as a non-alcoholic appetizers but we like them even better as dessert substitutes and most of all as hot summer afternoon rewards/pick-me-ups. They are also great when served with some plain cookies as refreshments for summer afternoon guests. Liketoeat

Sweet tea, ginger beer, milk, any soda, and bloody mary mix are all some of the drinks I like most. However my all time FAVORITE drink on ANY given day(weather doesn't matter) would have to be Hot Chocolate!!! The first thing I do as soon as I wake up is either take Hershey's Syrup or milk mix, mix it with a mug of milk and microwave it. I drink at least 2 mugs a day

Its a boring reply on my part, but (being from Georgia) I cant think of any thing better than an iced down coke pulled from the depths of a cooler, preferably in a glass bottle (it does make a difference).

A close second would be lemonade, with a fresh spring of mint swirled in.

When it's really hot, I prefer my homemade rum punch in a tall glass over "storebought" ice cubes. My punch contains fresh squeezed orange juice, pineapple juice, Malibu coconut rum, Bacardi light rum mixed together. "Float" Myers dark rum on top. Add paper umbrella and enjoy.

Other options for me: unsweetened iced tea over "storebought" ice with a slice of lemon; a Coke in a glass bottle that has little ice chips floating in it.

I'm quite fond of Orangina, especially since it's become available at the local grocery in reasonably-priced liter bottles. Just sweet and fizzy enough; I can easily down an entire bottle if I don't watch it.

I'm awfully fond of a Mason jar filled with ice, mineral water, lime, and a goodly amount of bitters shaken in. Good for the stomach and all that. Prevents flatulence, don't you know.
